In recent years the Cardinals rushing
attack has fallen on hard times.
For the Saints to beat the Cardinals they will need to keep the Cardinals
running the ball to set up obvious passing downs so that they can rush the
quarterback. If they are able to do
this, then they should be able to pull out a victory this week and keep their
playoff hopes alive. |

Faith, Hope - Even Without Bush |

Here's the latest confounding result for the maddeningly inconsistent New Orleans Saints: Their most impressive rushing performance of the season came without either of their star running backs.
With the discovery of Reggie Bush's torn knee ligament last week and with Deuce McAllister having gone out for the season back in Week 3, the Saints lined up in Atlanta on Monday night with a running back tandem of veteran third-stringer Aaron Stecker and undrafted rookie Pierre Thomas.
Combined with Devery Henderson's 15-yard gain on an end-around, New Orleans rushed for 145 total yards, better than in any of their previous 12 games.
"We have guys that stepped up and played real well last night," Payton said Tuesday after he reviewed game film. "You're going to lose some players. ... You know you're going to have to rely on some other players during their time off. That's just the reality of our game. Hopefully you can still have consistency within your attack, either on defense or offense and in your kicking game."
The Saints aren't saying whether they think they'll get Bush back at all this season. Payton said he expected to have some sort of update on Wednesday afternoon.
Bush has a torn left posterior cruciate ligament, which does not require surgery but likely would require at least a month to heal enough for him to play again.
The Saints have only three games left in the regular season, but at 6-7 still remain only a game behind Minnesota for the final wild-card playoff spot in the NFC.
Should the Saints place Bush on injured reserve it would mean they believe his injury is serious enough that he could not help even if New Orleans made the playoffs. |

Falcons See Vick Sentenced, Then Get Blown Out by Saints |

ATLANTA (AP) — The Falcons awoke to news of their disgraced quarterback being sentenced to nearly two years in prison for dogfighting.
The day never got any better.
With Reggie Bush watching from the sideline, Drew Brees passed for 328 yards and three touchdowns as the New Orleans Saints bounced back from a devastating loss with a 34-14 rout of Atlanta on Monday night.
The Falcons (3-10) showed just how much they miss Michael Vick, who was sentenced to 23 months in federal prison about 10 hours before his ex-teammates kicked off another game in a lost season.
Even though Bush wasn't able to play because of a partially torn knee ligament that reportedly will keep him out the rest of the season, the Saints (6-7) had no trouble getting over the disappointment of their last-minute loss to Tampa Bay a week earlier.
Brees shredded the Falcons' defense for four scoring drives that covered at least 75 yards, including a 99-yarder that used up nearly the entire field. He opened with a 25-yard touchdown pass to David Patten, hooked up with Marquis Colston on a pair of shorter TD throws, and would have had another score if Eric Johnson had not dropped a pass in the end zone.
Two Falcons tried to show their solidarity with Vick, sending messages that almost surely will draw fines from the image-conscious NFL.
Cornerback DeAngelo Hall ran on the field during pregame introductions holding up a Vick poster and had "MV7" painted beneath his eyes. Roddy White hauled in a 33-yard touchdown pass that briefly tied the game at 7, then pulled up his jersey to reveal a T-shirt that said "Free Mike Vick."
Hall and White can only hope Vick didn't have cable TV in his jail cell, because this was another ugly performance by the team No. 7 put in such a bind with his off-the-field troubles.

The Saints have their backs against the walls. They are on the verge of elimination from the playoff race. Really?
How about this: The Saints are still alive in the playoff hunt. And as far as their playoff hopes are concerned, they have to do their part and win one-week-at-a-time. It starts Monday Night in Atlanta. |

The Saints will be playing another division rival this week when they face off against the Atlanta Falcons. In order for the Saints to have any sort of a chance at the playoffs they will have to win the remainder of their games. To beat the Falcons the Saints will need to limit turnovers on the offense and establish the run in order to open up the passing attack. |

Bush Bashers (Reggie not George) |

Bashing is the name of the game when the New Orleans Saints lose. Saints star running back Reggie Bush is not immune. After fumbling a pitch-back reverse late in the game against the Bucs on Sunday, Reggie Bush reads more like George Bush in the media, forums and Saints blogisphere. |
