Saints Draft Aftermath - Halo grades the Saints an ___

1a. Was a head scratcher to say the least. Where does he play? Are we going to PO Armstead and move him to RT? Will he be able to beat out a healthy Strief? Like I've said before, with your highest 1st round pick, you MUST get a PLAYMAKER. I don't think we did, so, wasted pick. He may develop in a year or two but we DID NOT need any PROJECT PLAYERS. I believe we could have gotten a top OG at that spot that could have started by either beating out Lelito or Evans. Help in the run game, help in the passing game, ie, PLAYMAKER.

1b. I really like this pick. Anthony was the best ILB in the draft and I believe the next Urlacher. Anthony has a very good chance of starting this year by beating out either Hawthorne or Ellerbe. Very good solid pick and we've needed LB's ever since the Dome Patrol days.

    2. OLB, Kikaha. Lets get this straight. This guy was hurt 2 years ago. He's spent 2 full years since those injuries being one of the best OLB's in college football, including leading all OLB's in sacks. Something we need, and a PLAYMAKER. All this "If he can stay healthy stuff is BS, he's stayed healthy, get over it.

3a. Grayson. I seriously do not see what Payton see's in this guy. I watched his game against Utah, I believe and he looked like Drew's evil twin. You know, the one that throws 3-5 INT's in a game? Wasted pick in my opinion and could still have gotten a very good OG or even better CB.

3b. P. J. Williams, so much for top character guys and getting rid of some serious talent because of said character. May turn out to be good or a bust.

5a. Travis Tull, OLB another one of the top sack LB's and I think, actually #2 in college. Something we desperately need. Good possibility of becoming a PLAYMAKER.

More later, the dweebs I work with are calling me.

I felt they were high on Griffin, but he may be too small and I'm not sure about his arm strength. If he was "Brees replacement good" we would know by now and he would be 2nd string QB. I also don't think there is some secret out there Payton and Loomis are keeping about Griffin, he's probably 3rd string with hopes of being 2nd string, but probably not with New Orleans, or if so it would be years down after Brees is no longer with the team.

I hope Griffin is that good, but I'm not seeing or hearing any evidence otherwise.

Peat is the main player i have to wait and see on. ask me in a few years. till then i say c+ with a shot at b+ really easy. as you now i do not just give out draft grades.

Sign Collins as a UDFA and we are talking solid B with a shot at A

MIA: Our defense has never been the same since we didn't replace Scott Fujita

It was the double whammy of Fujita leaving combined with the decline in Vilma's health. Those two were definitely a factor in the defensive decline. Also people ragged on him, but by losing Jenkins you lost a defensive captain, which is a leadership and locker room role, it is so much more than an honorary title or empty platitude.

i understand the love for athletic freaks and all that stuff but i appears that one issue that has been over looked. it is a simple evaluation. can they play football? take the right angles and all that simple stuff.

I think we have gotten to far away from the lunch pail mentality on defense. there is a lot to be said about a player that does nothing great but does everything else well. that is what we had back then.

The Truth About Roger Goodell's NFL Crusade Against Bounties & Vilma

I've been studying old films and photos of NFL games in the 1933 and 1934 timeframe. The FIRST official NFL Championship game was won by the Chicago Bears vs. the NY Giants. The game was played at Wrigley Field in November, 1933.

That was the leather helmet era. Players did NOT use their heads to make contact back then. When they made a tackle, they turned their head to the side, put their shoulder into the runner's midsection and turned their face away from the contact.

My point is this: if the NFL prohibits all future head contact because it thinks it needs to do this to save the game, then, pro football will survive.

THIS era of using the helmeted head to administer hammer-blows probably should end, for the good of the game.
