    MID TERM ELECTION

    Ted,

What WODATINCA wrote is excellent. Please let me add a little more.

All politics are local. What you perceive to be national politics are kabuki theatre. Your local government is at the heart of how healthy your business climate is and how robust your services are. The more citizens who are engaged in their communities have lower crime, higher graduation rates, higher labor force participation rates and, generally, a fair tax rate to support those services.

Nationally, you are voting on issues that transcend your community. The federal government is about as influential on an economy as a basketball coach is to an NBA team. Good policy will help, but the industries have to be competitive and well managed to gain from good government. Bad policy will disrupt industries from working well together. Unfortunately, a great coach cannot win with mediocre talent, but talent will often overcome bad coaching. The point is that voting for a government because you think they will improve the economy is not a winning strategy. Governments are primarily for defending rights and for protecting those who cannot protect themselves (the rich really don't need protecting). You are better served voting for national service candidates who believe how people should be protected, not how they can influence the economy.

Anyway, sorry I didn't post this before you voted (not that I have any expectation of influencing your decisions).

Pay attention to your assemblyman and your counselpeople. If you really want America to work, make it easier for the people on the ground to get things done.

    XAN

If you are worried about jobs -- then vote for the Dems -- because they have offered tax incentives to businesses who do not offshore jobs. Also, manufacturing jobs are not coming back to this country while labor in other countries is cheaper. Although, with 3D printers some of that manufacturing business may return to the US for awhile. Become a 3D printer operator.

If you are worried about crime then study your local politics and vote for the candidates who have the best crime fighting records. Crime in your neighborhood is not a national issue.

About unprotected sex: Only morons have unprotected sex. Why would you worry about them? And, we have medical treatments now for most diseases contracted via sex activity ( except AIDS but, AIDS is actually not that easy to get as long as you aren't having unprotected sex with gay men ).

About drug use: We lost the war on drugs a long time ago. Analogously, we lost the war on alcohol ( remember Prohibition in the 1920s ). People will use drugs including alcohol, caffeine, tobacco, prescription drugs, etc. Laws will not stop them-- that is already proven. Why do you need to stop people from being stupid and hurting themselves? That is their choice -- and filling up the jails with these misguided souls is additional stupidity.

Adultery and sex outside of marriage? Seriously? That is a concern of yours and you somehow think that our legal system is going to pass legislation to stop that? Wow. Perhaps you don't deserve to vote.

Seriously, Ted, the mid-terms are about which party is going to control the senate as well as some important state governorships. Most of the issues that you bring up aren't national issues, except the issue of jobs. Since 2008 ( when the Bush administration left office with the entire world in a financial meltdown ) the job creation index is now at it's highest point since the 2008 financial meltdown. See this graph for the Job Creation Index since 2008: U.S. Job Creation Index Highest Since September 2008

Obama and the Democrats have been in office since 2008. They pulled us out of the global financial crisis which was caused by Wall Street and their political cronies who were both Democrats and Republicans.

    Take a look at )

You need to get better educated about politics Ted. About what politics can and cannot do. Then, you will be a better voting participant in our democracy.

i guess, my problem is trust. everyone says this and that but no one seems to be doing anything to stop the bleeding. i'm not with any party. i just want us to be and get better as a society and country. i really thank you for your response and advice.

    "IRONY"

All true WHODATS believe we're winning the bowl this year. I've predicted and have been certain we're winning the bowl every year since the early 80s. I've convinced myself that Aaron Brooks, Wade Wilson and Heath Shuler were all leading us to a title.

    BACK TO THE BASICS?

The rule changes prohibiting defenders from hitting the QB or even receivers catching the football or from jamming receivers at all past 5 yds have all contributed to offenses being able to pass far more effectively than ever before. QBs now regularly complete 60% or more of their passes. A strong running game is great but is no longer necessary to win a SuperBowl. This is the trend now but who knows, Seattle won the Bowl by running the ball and the 49ers also play old school football constantly trying to pound the rock. We even recently saw a resurgence of the option in the NFL. No one actually ran the option for probably 20 years in the NFL before that. Offenses have become more and more pass oriented but running and stopping the run will probably always be the main ingredients needed to win consistently in the NFL or any league for that matter. I think if a team actually implemented a true wishbone option offense that it could present real problems for today's defenses that are not built to stop a true ground and pound offense. Of course you'd need at least one if not two very athletic QBs to run this style because your QB is essentially a running back in this style of offense. But if you truly committed to it just think you could easily sign the three best option QBs from college football because most teams don't want em. The 49ers ran a ton of option two years ago and it was very effective and they nearly won the SuperBowl doing that and Seattle ran a little option and ran a lot en route to winning the SuperBowl last year.

    NOW THAT IT'S OVER?

No. I don't think the Saint's 11-5 season was worthy of much respect in the eyes of the media. There are too many negative things come to mind, the worst defense in the history of the NFL and a losing record was just last season, the losing record on the road this season and specifically losing to the Jets and the Rams. Even the great defense the Saints have had this year isn't as good as the Seahawks or the Niners.

The 40whiners got credit for three reasons that I can think of. First, they beat the Seahawks the last time they played. Second they had just won two road playoff games and Third and most importantly in my opionion, this was their third NFC championship game in a row. The have established themselves as a powerhouse.

New Orleans is a small market. The national media doesn't have to pander to the Saints the way ESPN does to the North Eastern teams or the big city markets. Credit, is earned. And the media likes things simple, they don't want to have to dig deep to find the reasons why the Saints struggled on the road or why the defense was so bad last year. If it's not obvious, then they won't write about it. It was too easy to run with "The Saints can't win on the road" or "Drew can't play in the cold" than actually figure out why.

    Just my opinion.

I think saying "with the saints winning their first playoff win in franchise history" is disrespectful too. You must have made an error.
