After the unprecedented beat-down given to the Saints by Commissioner Goodell and the kick 'em while their down efforts of New York media, have been looking for something good to take from the ongoing events of Bountygate...

With the anticipated penalties coming for players and a new defensive coordinator in Steve Spagnuolo, who'll be objective as he is tasked in getting the defense to a championship level, the player suspensions may have a long term positive effect on the organization.

Blindly loyal Saints fans may not like it, but the Saints FO will need to make sure they have enough players to minimize the pending personnel shortages.

And with change definitely needed on defense after the utter train wreck led by its engineer, Gregg Williams (sorry - he, who shall not be named), the reality is this combination of events may lead to better, younger defensive personnel.

Starting with Middle Linebacker, let me say I SincerelyLove and Appreciate what Jon Vilma has done for this franchise. But consider he probably needs more time to heal and assess the impact his playing career may have on his his long-term health. The recent "upgrade" at MLB is one example; the signing of Curtis Lofton and the Lord of the Flies Media drum beating hunt Jon Vilma's head - a painful change has taken place...

And what of Quarterback Drew Brees contract? Outside of Southern Louisiana and certain outposts of Saints Nation, he's amazingly no lock for the Hall of Fame on the first ballot; some idiots still use the argument he's had one good season and no League MVP's.

Brees contract and its negotiations have gone painstakingly slow for nervous fans. Also, complicating things are unethical media types writing self-righteous editorials demanding a max contract for Tom Condon, correction Drew Brees, when in fact they are comprising themselves to repay their sources who are mostly players' agents.

Consider who a max contract benefits most - the agent; hopefully Brees will realize that the big difference in 19 million and 23 milliion per annum is that by taking the 19 million he will allow the franchise cap freedom to make the upgrades necessary to get Brees the ball, protect Brees from harm, and provide Brees with the weapons to cement his place in NFL lore and history, thereby maxing his long term well-being...

And as their are still needed personnel changes, especially on the defensive line and linebacker positions, Brees may not be getting credit for waiting and using "the heat" to make sure the Saints FO is not being lazy in getting fresh troops before signing his contract; at the very least he could use this argument to save face for taking slightly less in annual salary...

The positive in this is that we should have players available who won't be a part of a suspension process and could provide fresh legs to the defense.

And, hopefully, to borrow from the film Major League one hell of a response to the league for the beatdown we received this past week - "To win the whole ***king thing!"
