Well, so this is what it comes down to this season, Patriots/Giants. Back to the future, the rematch, Tom Brady's revenge, Eli beating Peyton's bully in Peyton's backyard ... Boston vs New York ... the storylines are endless. Can't get that excited, maybe it's the ProBowl week blues, maybe it's because my team isn't in it, maybe it's because the parties overshadow the game at times, or the commercials, maybe it's that vitamin D deficiency thing they talk about in the winter, IDK. But, it's the SuperBowl, you almost feel obligated to talk about it. I'm hoping a blog will get me out of the doldrums and kick start me into looking closer at the game ... before it's too late.

The big 'D' vs the big 'O' ... or is it? I'm seeing some interesting comparisons here ... like Points Allowed ... you'd think New York would have the edge here. Surprisingly, they don't. The Giants allowed 400pts (25.0/g) and 25th in the NFL, the Patriots allowed 342pts/21.4g for 15th in the NFL. New York gets a few points for SoS (strength of schedule), but New England didn't win their division/conference by not playing a little 'D' somewhere along the line. Of course, the Giants with Eli are no slouches on offense either, so who exactly is the big 'D' and the big 'O'? I think the Pat's defense vs Eli Manning is gonna' be more the story then Brady lighting up the Giants.

Brady/Manning, the 'other' Manning ... soon to be 'the' Manning ... if he wins this one, he eclipses his brother ... yes/no? I think it arguably puts him in the same category with Brady/Brees/Rodgers, if you don't already put him there ... and how ironic to have the opportunity to forever come out of his brother's shadow by beating his brother's nemesis on his brother's home turf. Oh sweet revenge, Archie's probably blowing a gasket waiting on this one, just sayin'. But I like Eli, he's got 'true grit', he's got 'moxy', he's a big-game QB and he's the guy you want taking snaps when the game is on the line. The most memorable moment for me from last week's NFC Championship game was when the camera focused on Eli late in the game. He had just been pounded for the ump-teenth time by Justin Smith and he gets up with turf in his cage, shoulderpad sticking out, helmet cockeyed ... looking like he'd just been in a train wreck ... and he's looking around with one-eye for a ref to signal a time-out ... you can't coach that, your QB either has it or he doesn't. It separates the men from the boys, it's what gets you into the postseason.

Not that Tom Brady doesn't have it, either. They don't call him 'Captain Comeback' for nothing, and considering the only other QB to seriously garnish that nickname was Joe Montana, that's a huge compliment. When he was at University of Michigan, we kept it simpler and just called him, "Tom Terrific", but you get the idea. Brady is special. I'll never forget the 2000 Orange Bowl ... Brady comes back twice from -14 to win the game in OT ... against Alabama too. It was one of those 'defining moments' you always hear about. And now he's facing the guy who ruined his 'perfect' season. Nobody focuses like Brady, nobody prepares like Brady, nobody competes like Brady ... be afraid New York, be very afraid. Tom Brady plays football for only one reason ... to win SuperBowls ... and to date supermodels, but that's a whole 'nother blog entirely.

Both brothers are workhorses in the NFL if you ask me. Payton Manning has definitely gotten "THE HYPE" in the league. Eli has long been running a solid offense with sometimes lesser receivers. YES Eli's stock in the "HYPE" market will rise.

Even with a Superbowl win under his belt, multiple 4000 yard passing seasons, and a Manning last name... this year was the year Eli Manning finally arrived. Their offense has been riddled with inconsistencies and injuries all year... and he carried this team on his shoulders into the playoffs. He no longer has to walk behind Peyton's legacy, but now alongside it.

Now as much as I like him, Bilichick and Brady all the way! I've always been a closet Patriot fan even back to the Drew Bledsoe days. My first football memorabilia was an old school red NE worn out tee shirt. As I wish the Giants good luck, let's take it home Pats.

Always respected Peyton/Eli, they come from good 'football stock', after all. Too, I always felt the hype/attention they received was partially in reward to Archie for all the years he remained loyal to the Saints, and deservedly so. The Manning's are like football's "Kennedy's" without Chappaquiddick and stuff.

And then you debate, "who's better? Peyton or Eli/". I used to think Peyton because I thought Eli had better teams around him, but this year, not so much. But would the Giants disintegrate like the Colts did without Peyton if Eli was lost? I don't think so, but Eli did get New York to the SuperBowl ... and it was Eli this time. It makes for great conversation, that's for sure. Either way, I know their daddy sure is proud.

But, the NFL is a cruel mistress ... and fickle ... as much as I like Eli and will be eternally grateful to him for knocking the 49'ers out of the playoffs, he has now outlived his usefulness and I have to go with Brady in this one, lol!

Word on the street is, the Pats don't match up well with the Giants. Didn't in 2007, less so this year. The Giants are a totally different team then the team the Saints killed in week 12. Will be an interesting Superbowl this year.

I couldn't get into the Superbowl last year.... it was too boring....just sayin.

The Giants are definitely the 'hot' team right now, and this 'Eli' is better then 2007 'Eli' ... but IDK, the Pats have a better running game then they did in 2007, they got Gronkowski, Hernandez & Walker ... and they got Brady. Yeah, the defense is lacking somewhat, but I think Brady puts up more points on New York then Eli can put up on New England.

You get tickets to the SuperBowl every year?

New England's TE has a high ankle sprain? Sure I heard that somewhere this week. That's big.

I think the "G" men win again.

Yeah, Gronkowski ... ouch! I've just been hearing he had some sort of injury and was hoping the extra week off would give him time to heal up. High ankle sprain? Could take him 2 weeks, could take him a month or longer. That's not good for the Pats.

I'm starting to think I'm betting on the wrong horse ...

Am I the only one who thinks that is crazy that the Patriots have made it to 5 superbowls since 2000? I looked at there team and noticed they dont even have a defensive coordinator. How is that possible? The Patriots really are the team to beat in the NFL.

... and won three out of four with one to play ... nah, you're not crazy ... some would say it's an indictment of the AFC and AFC East that a team with no DC could finish in first and go to the SuperBowl, but I think it's more indicative of Belichik and the systems he put in place back in 2000. Having Tom Brady hasn't hurt him any either.

Belichik/Brady have a history and it can't be denied. The Patriots are to the New Millenium what the Steelers were to the '70s, the FortyNiners were to the '80s and the Cowboys were to the '90s.

They are the team to beat, and while I don't necessarily have a dog in the fight, I'm still sticking with Brady and the Pats in this one.
