Historically, the Saints have performed decently well when coming off of a bye week. As the infographic linked below illustrates, the Saints have a winning record (3-2) when coming off a bye week over the last five years.

New Orleans Saints Bye Week Breakdown

One of the teams that dealt us a loss during that period was none other than our upcoming post-bye-week foe: the Detroit Lions. In that 2014 loss, the Lions came roaring back under the arm of Matthew Stafford to steal a victory against the hometown crowd.

In the final quarter, Stafford rallied the Lions by tossing two touchdowns in the final 3:38 to give Detroit a one-point victory. A 4th down penalty on Rafael Bush during the Lions' final drive was the difference between a win and a loss that Sunday afternoon.

Over the last five years, the Lions are 2-3 playing teams coming off a bye week. In 2017, they play a total of three teams coming off their bye week, as compared to New Orleans who plays zero.

Stafford when hot is one the best QB in the NFL without a doubt.

Issue with the lions right now is their running game.

If Stafford is off and the running game is still an issue then the saints are looking good going into the game. If the saints allow the lions to rush the ball and let Stafford go into play action mode we could be in for a long game.
