FSU kick woes Tally...

Florida State kicker Gary Cismesia continued his trend of inconsistency this fall during Thursday's special teams scrimmage, making only two of his six attempts. Coach Bobby Bowden, who has seen his share of missed kicks against Miami, was troubled by his kicker's performance, but insisted that Cismesia will start.

RE: FSU kick woes Tally...

Let's see, we've already seen Florida State kickers miss to both the left and right, so the only logical new way for their kickers to miss another one is to kick the ball under the crossbar.

One way to break the wide left, wide right problem is to beat Miami the way they did tonight... go up and don't fall behind and don't worry about kicking.

Man was yesterday night a good football game... lots of hitting and great defense. Here are two things I came away after the game...

Meriweather hands down is the best safety in college football. He is another Shaun Taylor without the baggage. I would take him over Landry any day... and he has a great future in the NFL. First safety off the boards in 2007 w/o a question.

There's been lots of talk around Polensky and Willis... but if we had to take a linebacker right now out of the three, I'd take Buster Davis. Holy crap can he hit. He takes great angles, great form, great instinct, and he definately has the size and speed. He looks like Earl Holmes in his prime for the Steelers. Very good MLB prospect... if he'd drop down a couple of pounds, goodness gracious it's scary how better he could be.

Buster isn't exactly svelte, I'll give you that. Griffin and Hayes also had a good game. Both were a pleasant surprise.

Seems we'll have a decent defense. If the offense gets cranked up we may give it a run....

If the weather holds Saturday, I'll probably go to the FSU/Troy game. Enjoy your college football weekend, folks.

Bobby Bowden confirmed the worst-kept secret in Tallahassee this fall. Florida State will wear an all-black uniform Oct. 21 in a home game against Boston College. The uniform, which was the idea of Nike, will also commemorate FSU's relationship with the Seminole Tribe through wording an patchwork.

FSU's Griffin Out for Year

By Steve Ellis
DEMOCRAT STAFF WRITER

Word that Paul Griffin had suffered a season-ending knee injury was too much for his coach, Odell Haggins.

“Tears rolled out of my eyes today, Florida State's defensive-line coach said. “I actually cried. It's bigger than football. He's one of my kids. I felt his pain in my heart.

Griffin, a junior-college transfer who played at Pensacola High, started FSU's opening two games. He tore his left ACL on the third play of the game against Troy while tackling Gary Banks on a trick play. Haggins praised Griffin for his play against Miami.

Surgery is expected to take place in two weeks. The junior can apply for a medical hardship, which means he would still have two more years of athletic eligibility. Griffin earned NJCAA 2005 all-region honors and enrolled at FSU in January.

FSU is expected to play a lot of 3-4 defense to counter the loss of Griffin for the season and the absence of backup Emmanuel Dunbar almost certainly for at least the Clemson game.

Redshirt freshman Kendrick Stewart will likely start at noseguard with true freshman Budd Thacker behind him.

I watched that game and both teams stunk up the joint. Funny thing (to me) is that LSU, Fla. St. and Miami are are ranked (RANK) 9-10-11. Bottom of the barrell! 9-10-11..That means you stink! Have I mentioned that I'm a Buckeye?

OSU looks good so far.

Florida State is 2-0 versus Ohio State. Both games were played in Columbus.
