Smile Houston Cougars 73?..9 Tds?

So what do yall think about the Cougs putting up 73 points on Rice last night..Keenum threw 9 yes count em 9 TDs...they're are undefeated ranked 17th in the polls..Should Keenum be in the Heisman running?..if they go undefeated then what?...should they have a shot at a major bowl game...And one last thought...would you take Keenum in the draft to be the future behind Drew..or do you think Daniel is the future?...i would grab him in the 2nd if he was there...all he does is win and can make any throw..and reads Ds better than most pro QBs...i think in 3 to 5 years in our system with Drew and Payton..he would be lethal..

Any thoughts?

Also Kevin Sumlin should be on some big school radar for a head coaching job..guy has done a jam up job turning this program around..

I'll start off by saying I like Casey Keenum and I agree that Sumlin has done a hell of a job turning Houston into a respectable program. He'll get his chance to coach in a bigger conference against better competition when Houston joins another conference. Now onto my other thoughts.

9 touchdowns is 9 touchdowns... he did a fantastic job and did exactly what he should do against weak competition. At the end of the day, it was Rice they played against. Look at all the quarterback prospects schools with the spread offense that plays inferior competition have produced. Prime examples of these guys are Texas Tech prospects. The offense in which they run inflate their stats and make them appear better than they really are. Do I think he's a Heisman candidate? Sure... if he can continue to put up ridiculous statistics, he should at least get a mention. Is he a legitimate candidate? No. He had as much as a chance as Colt Brennan did when he was in college. It wasn't realistic. Do I think Keenum is an NFL quarterback? I do... I think he can be a mid round pick with a good combine and pro day. I do not believe at this moment in time he is a high round pick given the conference and level of competition. Would I take a chance on him? Sure I would... if he tested well I definitely wouldn't mind drafting him to see what kind of player we could turn him into.

Now on to Houston... should they get a major bowl bid? That depends... how "major" are we talking about? Capital One bowl maybe? I think a BCS bid would be a major reach until they proved themselves against a big time school as a Boise State has. If we took Vandy and put them in Houston's conference... they would dominate it. Should they get a BCS bid? You get what I'm trying to get at?

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

All little common sense goes a long way.

Thanks for the reply Papz..i agree the competition they have played isn't SEC or say Pac10...but would've you say Keenum would be competitive in the SEC if he was on a team like LSU or Bama...i would take him over both those two schools starters. It will be interesting to see where he goes..ive seen him play live a few times and he chunks the ball all over the field..kinda in a spread... but also in a pro style with 4 and 5 WRs sets..he is smart and is a good leader on the field with good awareness in the pocket like Drew..He can scramble for first downs when needed..Guess im looking to the future after Drew..maybe he slips to the 3rd...and Payton snags him...Would be fun to have a legit QB prospect for Payton to groom.

I do want to add you could be right on draft prospect though... Kevin Kolb came from the same program and now he's a well paid starting quarterback. Now he hasn't amount to much yet... but he has plenty of time to justify it. I do like Keenum better than I did Kolb... by a mile.

As an U of H alum, I think Keenum is better than Kolb as well .... yeah sure Houston and Texas Tech offense is one in the same but if the Saints some how have multiple picks in one of the later rounds I would love for the Saints to develop him

Go Cougars! I think Keenum should be considered for Maxwell award, maybe Heisman. I think he's worth a 3rd to 5th round draft pick, could be someone who could develop well in the NFL.

Look, Houston needs to stick with the CLASSIC uniforms. Not a fan of all those fancy stripes!
