RB Jeremy Hill suspended from LSU football team

Two days after an arrest for his role in a fight at an off-campus bar, LSU running back Jeremy Hill was suspended indefinitely by coach Les Miles on Monday.

While LSU took official action, new details in a Baton Rouge police report disclosed additional details of the fight at Reggie’s Bar in Tigerland, including Hill and a second suspect reportedly exchanging a high-five after attacking a male victim from behind and the running back denying he’d taken part in the fight even after being shown video by police.

It remains unclear if Hill, who is charged with misdemeanor simple battery, will miss any games this fall, or whether he will return for preseason workouts starting in August.

Miles, who returned from an appearance on the NFL Network during its draft coverage in New York, said in a statement he would not comment publicly until the matter involving Hill had been adjudicated.

Last season, Hill gaining 755 yards and scoring 12 touchdowns on 145 carries. This spring, he was atop the LSU depth chart, and rushed 103 yards on 13 carries during the Tigers’ spring game April 27.

East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore III said Monday it’s possible the charges against Hill could be upgraded, but added “simple battery is probably the appropriate charge based on what I’ve seen right now.”

New details from the police report include cell phone videos showing Hill walking up behind the male victim and punching him behind his left ear before the second suspect delivered a blow.

What a frickin' idiot. The kid already had baggage coming to LSU which we supported him throughout the process and still gave him a chance... then he goes out and does something idiotic like this.

He was suppose to make a Heisman run this season. Wow. I'd suspend him for at least half a season and if we were to kick him off the team, I'd be absolutely fine with that.

Miles better keep that clean straight or it will be his demise as coach. I'm glad to see him suspend people. He needs to throw some kids off to make a point.

If Miles ever gets fired from LSU, player and team discipline will be cited as a major factor.

Cut the idiot. Don't let him tarnish the team. Unless there is very good proof of him being innocent. I so tired of these thugs and idiots just wasting chances people would die for.

Handwerger: After the latest arrest, you have to wonder what's going on at LSU
What the heck is going on at LSU?

The question has to be asked, and it can be argued, should have been asked a long time ago.

Jeremy Hill’s off-the-field shenanigans are only the latest in a torrent of bad publicity during the past few years of Les Miles’ tenure.

Hill, who already was on probation in connection with a 2011 arrest, was arrested Saturday for allegedly punching another man outside of a Baton Rouge bar.

Add his dustup to what turned into a season-long saga with Jordan Jefferson in 2011, the multi-year story of Tyrann Mathieu and what seems like the more than occasional failed drug test and subsequent suspension and you have to wonder about things.

Does Miles have control over his players and, more importantly, do his players even respect him?

Because if they did respect him, they wouldn’t constantly put him in tough situations where he either has to suspend them on his own or let the justice system do its work.

The theory goes that as long as a program is producing winning teams, pretty much anything goes. Because with wins comes money and with money comes facilities and with facilities comes players and coming full circle, with players comes wins.

And certainly LSU has consistently been one of the top programs under Miles. This past weekend, nine players went in the NFL draft, including three in the first two rounds. Since Miles got to LSU in 2005, in fact, 49 players have been drafted, including 10 first-rounders.

At what point, however, do the free passes stop.

Not that a lot of people care (because again, it’s all about winning), but all of the issues don’t make LSU look any better.

What these players are doing is taking advantage of Miles for being Miles. He’s a loyal man, one of the nicest in the business.

His uniqueness – the thing that makes him Les Miles and the thing that we love – also makes him an easy target to be abused by young people who don’t care that he has their best interest in mind.

I’m certainly not naïve and know that LSU isn’t the only school where this happening. And it’s not like it’s happening with the entirety of the roster.
But that doesn't make it right and any less confounding.
The question is this – when do we begin to wonder if it’s finally too much?

I use to really like Handwerger but over the last couple of years, he's really gone down the toilet from jumping the gun to talking out his ass.

I found this on the Tiger boards.

Re: RB Jeremy Hill suspended from LSU football team

A college kid getting in a bar fight.... yea, that never happens.

You should have seen the honky tonk era, you phuckin' yuppies.

You turn on your own team at the drop of a hat.
You're not fans. you're fairweather yuppie whiners.

I hope that kid turns his life around. he'll never be the yuppies that you are, regardless... so he'll likely be just fine.

You like bashing on him because it makes your pathetic life seem better, is my guess.

Try not to act like jerry springer / oprah, ya freakin yuppies.
