Mack Brown to Step Down?

The Mack Brown era at Texas is reportedly coming to an end. According to Chip Brown of OrangeBloods.com, Brown will step down this week.

Per the report:

“Mack Brown loves Texas and wants what’s in the best interest of Texas and what’s in the best interest of Mack Brown,” one high-level source said. “I don’t think it’s been an easy decision. But he doesn’t want negativity around the program he helped unify.”
According to ESPN’s Joe Schad, however, the school has denied the report, saying that the Board of Regents will meet on Thursday. Brown’s attorney told the AP that the coach “has not resigned.” Brown also denied the report to 247 Sports.

I heard on the radio home that he was in negotiations with Bama on extending his current contract. Again. Leverage.

Yea... something like 7 million a year. With that said, Texas is rumored to offer 9 plus million dollars and 1% of the Longhorn Network.

I don't even think its about the money anymore with Nick. He already has more pesos than one could want, lands the nations best recruits (he has some 5 star recruits willing to sit 2 years before they see the field), has the hardware and walks on water down in Alabama. At this stage of his life, I think its the 'challenge' that fuels his fire.

I would be very surprised if he left Bama to coach those shorthorns down in Austin.

He could do everything you mentioned anywhere. As far as the "challenge" part, one could say he'd still be in the NFL if that were the case. I'd be surprised if he left but I certainly could see why. Austin is a beautiful place to retire, he gets more money, have a legit shot with little opposition to the top seed for the National Championship every year, and not only still being able able to recruit nationally, but keep all those 5 star prospect Texas produce instate. They could just hand pick players every year from Texas alone and field a championship team. So many pros to move on.

Saban to be next Texas coach

Alabama coach Nick Saban will replace Mack Brown at Texas and become the Longhorns' next head coach, a reporter from the Fort Worth Telegram posted on Twitter.
"Source close to Texas executive council of regents says Nick Saban will be next Longhorns coach," tweeted Stefan Stevenson, the TCU beat reporter for the Telegram.
However, there are conflicting reports. NFL.com analyst Gil Brandt reported via Twitter that a source told him Saban was in contract negotiations with Alabama for a contract extension that would be in the $7 million-per-year range.
Adding to the uncertainty is the fact that multiple media outlets reported earlier Tuesday that Brown plans to step aside after this season. However, Brown has denied he intends to step down.

Why would he go to Texas? He is the program at Alabama, at Texas he would have the AD, boosters, alumni and leeches trying to waste his time that would take away from coaching

The rumor is $10 million a year plus 1% of the Longhorn Network... FWIW.
