American Made...Or Maybe Not

A few weeks ago I was in Lowes looking for a shovel. I broke my POS shovel I bought at Wal Mart uprooting some plants my wife commanded me to remove from the back and side yards at our new house, so, thinking I'd go for more quality this time, I headed over to Lowes. It should be noted that I do not shop at Home Depot because I refuse to support the Atlanta Failcones in any way. :-)

So anyway, I'm there looking at all the shovels. They have the square tip and the round tip and various handles and sides with unique grips, or not. A fine selection of shoves there at Lowes I must say. So, as I'm browsing and taking each one down and pretending to dig with it I notice one says "Made In China" on it.

So I say, "self, let's buy American". Self agrees, so I pull down the next shovel. "Made In China". Piss. I grab another one. "Made in China". Son of a ****!. Next? "Made in ****ing China". WTF? I expect this at Wal Mart. C'MON Lowes. For reals?

So, as it turns out, Lowes does not carry a shovel that is made in America. The best I could do, and in fact the one I liked the best, was "Assembled" in America with parts made in "Mexico".

People this is a damn shame. So, when a friend of mine sent me this email today, it hit home with me. I've seen it before - minus the swipe at Obama. It certainly isn't new, and the issue certainly wasn't created by Obama, but when I read it this time it really struck home because of my recent shovel shopping. Considering we just passed Labor Day, seemed appropriate.

John Smith started the day early having set his alarmclock
(MADE IN JAPAN )
for 6 am ..

While his coffeepot

(MADE IN CHINA)

was perking, he shaved with his
electric razor

(MADE IN HONG KONG)

He put on a dress shirt

(MADE IN SRI LANKA),

designer jeans

(MADE IN SINGAPORE)

and tennis shoes

(MADE IN KOREA)

After cooking his breakfast in his new
electric skillet

(MADE IN INDIA)

he sat down with his calculator

(MADE IN MEXICO)

to see how much he could spend today. After setting his watch

(MADE IN TAIWAN )

to the radio

(MADE IN INDIA )

he got in his car
(MADE IN GERMANY )

filled it with GAS

(from Saudi Arabia )

and continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB..

At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day
checking his Computer

( made in MALAYSIA ),

John decided to relax for a while.
He put on his sandals

(MADE IN BRAZIL ),

poured himself a glass of wine

(MADE IN FRANCE )

and turned on his TV

(MADE IN INDONESIA ),

and then wondered why he can't
find a good paying job in AMERICA
AND NOW HE'S HOPING HE CAN GET HELP FROM A PRESIDENT

MADE IN KENYA

Thanks to unending government regulations, and unions pricing American made products out of existence.

That was very good. It's sad but true.

I feel your pain ... and I am from France. It's time for our country to start bringing manufacturing back to our shores. Trump has it right on the money with that one. The best way in my view is something most of our elected officials don't have the courage to do, pass and implement HR25.
H.R.25: Fair Tax Act of 2009 - U.S. Congress - OpenCongress
Even with the bloated union labor costs and bloated regulation costs, we could outpace all other countries economically, rather than regress as a nation.
