One Hour Closer to New Orleans Now!

We spent our first night in the new house Sunday night, and couldnt be happier.

No more noise, traffic, and stress of Houston's Galleria. A lot of kids and high maintenance women would kill to live there, but for a guy my age, with my backwoods roots and values, its hell.

Old River TX. It looks like it sounds. In fact, it looks like it could be in Louisiana, which is what I love about it. After we get unpacked, I'll put in in the marsh, and take some pictures for you. My Louisiana friends will argue and say, "Naw man, that's in ____ Parish."

Old River is part of where the Trinity River deltas before it hits Galveston Bay. (technically, it goes into "Trinity Bay.") It looks to me like Old River was the main channel a long time ago, and then a course change came. If you look at how wide it is at the I-10 Bridge, it explains why some history buffs think LaSalle actually went up the Trinity, thinking he'd returned to the Mississippi river, before his disgruntled crew killed him.
An adjacent stream, "Lost River," tells a story with its name alone. I've been up it, and its a beautiful place.

Here, look for yourself, and see if this doesnt look like a Sportsman's Paradise!

Now zoom out, and you'll see all this goes into Trinity Bay. East of us is Anahuac, the Gator Capital of Texas. Yes, it is brackish, depending of course, on rain. Really, this place offers so much, I dont even know what to do with all of this! But I have camouflauge-wearing friends who will point me the right way.

We have exactly one traffic light. The only other thing lit up is an exceptionally neon lighted liquor store. I need to send you pictures of that too. God does the rest of the lighting there, with a zillion stars you cant see in Houston.

My new neighbors all have boats, and appear to be gainfully employed. Locking things shouldnt be an issue. I could probably
leave my keys in the truck with the windows down. Where I'm from, you can do that. I have yet to hear anybody driving by going BBBBBB! BBBBBB! BBBBBB!

The house? Oh yeah, the house. Its awesome. The garage is huge and it has a balcony, that will easily pass for the French Quarter, when I finish with it.

As for the house part, the lady who had it did decor that reminds me of my grandma's house, so I love it. Of course, my wife thinks its too old fashioned, and wants to change it. As if there is something wrong with things from the 70s.

So WhoDats, we're just a bit off I-10 between Houston & New Orleans. I'll keep beer in the fridge, so when you want to stop a while, come on in.

It also happens to be our 5th Anniversary, so I want to have a combo housewarming/ anniversary party, and you're all invited. Wear your Saints stuff.

here's the catch

Ok, I found the "catch." There IS, in fact, noise in the country. Yesterday morning, going into my truck, I heard...

...a rooster.

We're home.

I'll have to double my visits from last year.

When are they gonna build that monorail from NOLA to Houston?

Be careful what you wish for!

Nah I'm kidding. That sounds like it would be cool.

Never stop creating "Euphoria", fellas. It's what has me living in Alaska right now. When the feeling stales, MOVE ON.

Very happy for you, SkyMike. Sounds like my kind of place... but with no mountains.

Alaska in NOLA
