You gotta love Hockey.

Hockey, the only sport that kicks sportmanship right in the nuts.

And the fans prefer it that way!

SloMotion 06-28-2012 05:29 AM

... way to go 'coach', and you wonder why some minor league hockey 'parents' behave the way they do sometimes? They gotta' deal with jerks like this coaching their kids ... brings back memories ... I'da been kicking his ass all over the lobby ... bet.

Crusader 06-28-2012 06:54 AM

Thats just really really stupid.

Yep, kid probably said "good shot coach, but I'll get even" and then proceeded to punch his star player in the nuts several times.

Hockey - the only sport with less teeth than a Tennnessee homecoming game.

I played that sport for 24 years. That is just a No Class Move period. Hockey is the only sport after each game you line up and shake hands.

Actually that happens in all sports in Sweden, soccer, hockey, football, basketball, always lining up shaking the opponents hand.

 ... yeah, there aren't many problems in the world today that can't be resolved with a good hockey scuffle,.

Not so much in the U.S. ... I was actually kind of surprised that incident happened in Canada ... I use to have my kids play hockey/soccer/baseball over in Ontario because the culture of sportsmanship among the coaches, parents, fans & players was a little better ... plus, Canada had 'Tim Hortons' and the U.S. didn't at the time so that was a big bonus, :).

please explain the appeal of Tim Hortons....I've never gotten why people love it so much...I mean, it's not IKEA, I can get behind that....

Yeah, what's that old joke?

"I went to see a fight & a hockey game broke out!"

"Timmy's", as it is affectionally known in my household & throughout the provinces, is to Canada what McDonald's is to the U.S. and more, they're everywhere ... I've been to towns that have been nothing but an intersection with a post office, ice rink & Tim Horton's ... some places didn't even have the post office or the ice rink, but they always had a Timmy's ... the French love their pastry.

Besides good sandwiches, soups, chili, coffee & donuts, Tim Horton's also sponsors youth hockey in Canada ... all the Canadian greats started out playing 'Timbits' minor hockey, even Sidney Crosby was a 'Timbit' at one time ... they're in every rink of every town in Canada ...

... you also have to know a little bit about Tim Horton himself ... played defense for Toronto & won a few Cups ... he was a legend before he went into the donut & coffee business.

So you see, that is the appeal of Tim Horton's ... it's not just 'fast-food', it's an institution, part of the culture, a respected member of each and every community ... you can walk into any Canadian ice rink today and I guarantee 95% of the patronage in there is going to be holding a Tim Horton's cup, and the other 5% is either thinking about it or they've just thrown one away ... no kidding.

QBREES9 06-30-2012 11:05 PM

Timmy's is like Dunkin Donuts here. Their every where.

( you can walk into any Canadian ice rink today and I guarantee 95% of the patronage in there is going to be holding a Tim Horton's cup, and the other 5% is either thinking about it or they've just thrown one away ... no kidding ) I know this to true to.

... it must be a regional thing because Dunkin' Donuts pretty much closed up shop in SE Michigan once Tim Horton's started coming around ... there's one, maybe two, I can think of still in operation ... not that I wouldn't patronize Dunkin' Donuts, just the main attraction for me with Timmy's was they had soups & sandwiches whereas Dunkin' Donuts did not and I was always over in Ontario anyway. I have noticed DD revamping their menu the past few years to compete. They should do a reality show on 'Donut Wars',.

... well, I pitched good product, service to the community and the undying loyalty of millions of Canadian consumers to the brand, if that doesn't get you on board, IDK what else to say other then try it for yourself,, you won't be disappointed.

Danno 07-01-2012 08:45 AM

... first time I ever tried a Krispy Kreme, I did think it was the greatest donut ever made, but after a few more times, it was just too much ... they've tried to open a few of them around here ... they start out like gangbusters ... long lines, busy ... but don't have the staying power of a "Timmy's" and wind up closing.

SloMotion's Donut Power-Rankings:

1) Tim Horton's
2) Dunkin' Donuts
3) Krispy Kreme

honorable mention:

a) the topless donut shop in Lake Worth, FL (closed by the health dept. in the mid-'80s)

mutineer10 07-04-2012 10:18 AM

There's one of those 24-hour Krispy Kreme restaurants on Lapalco Blvd. I work the night shift & drive by it all the time. Not really a sweets guy myself, but the stoners seem to enjoy it!
