Lawmakers retarget

One person in the article makes a great point, it's a crime to impersonate a police officer but when it comes to Military Veterans it's not that big of a deal which is a damn shame.

I put part of the blame though on the military's record keeping system. It has gotten better but they need a sytem that can verify 100% that someone has received awards and where they got them. Same goes for politicians. It should not be a circus trying to find out this information.

Fixed. They are making a national database and laying the groundwork to prosecute anyone making false claims.

Apples and oranges, dude. LEOs have a broad scope of powers that affects the rights of citizens, veterans do not.

And what about on a Federal or State installation with military LEO. You are saying it's ok to impersonate them but not an actual city or state LEO? And the military LEO that took control of NO they can also be impersonated?

Anyway, the point of the article is that people who claim they received awards which in fact they didn't are getting either financial or political gain from lying about their service. That is a serious offense because it directly affects citizens on many different levels. It should be prosecuted on the same level as impersonating a LEO or close to it.
