Sandy

Very concerned about this storm. I'm living in southeastern PA and it has a bead on us. I was activated by the Guard during Katrina and know all too well like many of you on this forum the mayhem something of this nature can do.

Thing is, I'm still in the Guard and have not received any notification on our response efforts. They are not prepared for something of this magnitude. I know they are already sending electical equipment to have on standby but that stuff is no good if the roads are flooded or blocked with debris. Food, water, plan to evacuate elderly, sick....it's like crickets around here and the state is virtually bankrupt. Even if they wanted to do something they could not without Federal assistance. Obama would be smart to pull the trigger right now on Federal troops.

Re: Sandy

Well, if you were around for Katrina, you know what happens when an area ISN'T prepared for a major storm ...

Yeah, the Guard should already be packed up and ready to respond. Apparently the campaign is drawing too much attention. Sheesh ...

Re: Sandy

Screw it. I've made preparations for my family. I just can't believe the people here acting like it's some weekend storm. This thing is massive. What you see hitting Fla are just bands.

Well, batten down the hatches boys and best of luck ... I heard it was headed for NYC, but I didn't realize it was making a run at PA & CT also. Keep us posted.

Re: Sandy

Coast will get a decent surge, winds will drop a lot of small debris and block drainage. Bad flooding and power out in big chunks. Power will be out for a week or more. The equipment to get power up will be ready but will not be able to get to it until the water subsides.

Re: Sandy

At least most outlets are predicting Sandy won't be a hurricane by landfall.

That said, it'll still dump a foot of rain in the vicinity where it lands, and possibly 1-2 feet of snow in the Appalachian Mountains.

Dunno how deadly Sandy will be, but she's shaping up to be a tremendous pain-in-the-ass, much like Hurricane Isaac was down here. Be prepared for flooding and power outages, for sure.
