I was 8. We were living in Gretna, and I remember my best friend/next door neighbor and his mom were at my house a few days before Christmas. We were talking about what we wanted from Santa that year, and all of a sudden his mom (who i found out later was an alcoholic) blurted out "it's time you boys know that there's no such thing as Santa." I still don't think I've ever forgiven her for that. If any adult ever did that to my kids, I'd beat the crap out of them lol.

5 or 6.
It's a sad thing that kids find out earlier and earlier that he doesn't exist. Christmas isn't the same when kids know that there parents get the presents.Childhood seems to be shorter and shorter.

No Santa? C'mon man. Next thing you're gonna tell me is the Saints don't have a head coach , only a couple of guys standing in the coaches spot.

Re: How old were you when...

I saw the cover of a Readers Digest that depicted a little boy peering down from the top of the stairs and his mother kissing what I guess was supposed to be his father dressed as Santa. I was 7. I don't recall if that was what exposed things, but I do know it was the first time I ever questioned whether or not Santa was real.

About 7, think I was born too much of a realist. It stopped making any sense early on, so I snuck downstairs and busted my parents putting out presents. They cussed me and made me promise not to tell my sister, lol.

I'm not exactly sure, but I think it's around the time my older sister's best friend, Benedetta Cristiana Miniaci, made a man out me ... I was a late bloomer & believed in Santa well into my early/mid teens, .

I was 7 or 8. Just realized that it was my mom bringing the gifts and not Santa. But still loved the Christmas procedure in the following years when she rang the bell and said "come in in! I just saw Santa leaving the house. You just missed him, but look what he left here for you!"

Re: How old were you when...

I don't remember my exact age, but, I was at the VFW hall with my Dad and Santa had made an appearance. Afterwards I was standing there with my Dad and some of his friends and one of them, who apparently didn't see me, looked at another guy and said, "You did good Santa Claus!". It just kind of clicked.

ETA: Oh, and I stopped believing in the Easter Bunny when I found the candy in my Mom's closet. Not sure which event happened first or even why I continued to believe in one after finding out about the other.
