Great movie. I heard one of the survivors of the USS Indiana at a Kiwana's club dinner and listening to him describe the 4 days in the water and the rescue in 12 foot seas was freaking breathtaking. Not a dry eye in the entire room.

He described the halucinations many of his friends had who saw land and swam toward it frantically until exhaustion drowned them, and as rescuers tried to pull them from the seas skin just peeled off their arms as the were being lifted.

Many convinced themselves the colder water near their feet was fresh water and they dove down for water and drowned. Of course you've all heard about the sharks. They would dive down and come straight up and attack them even though they had gathered in a cirlce.

He explained the only reason they were spotted on that routine mission was the pilot swore he saw a Japanese sub below and it was his lifelong dream to sink one of those bastards. They circled around for one last time and almost fired on the survivors until they noticed the shadow they saw was actually men gathered in a circle.

I agree Danno - a truly great movie, and that part you talk a out is my favorite. I've made my Wife stop and listen.
