Insuring the uninsured, that aspect I agree with, though I would have like to see them go about it in a different way.

In my 21yr old son's case, his employer is basically passing on any/all costs associated with the plan to the employees while cutting back on their hours in order to comply with other parts of the plan. All this while still paying SocSec/Medicare taxes to fund another healthcare plan that he undoubtedly will never be able to participate in because it will be bankrupt.

It's a pretty big burden for a 21yr old just starting out who is healthy & really only wants catastrophic/emergency-type medical insurance that he can get get at a far more reasonable rate than he is being forced to pay. It's the "new American dream" for his generation he told me the other day ... "have a part-time job & get an apartment" ... even though he works full-time & gets the house after I'm gone,.

Well there is the catch. Before this Insurance insured those that wanted it and could afford it.

Now everyone will HAVE to have it which is why it get a whole lot more expensive, that and kids stay on their parents plans until 26 I believe. Typically if a parent has bulk insurance with say State Farm its home/health/auto and is greatly discounted due to the multi policy nature. Normally a 24 year old wouldn't be so deeply discounted.

The problem i have is that the whole lack if insurance has been painted as a lack of health care. Its not, uninsured people could always go to a University Medical Center, or Charity Hospital for health care when needed. And i am sure you agree Slomo, I do not want to hear crap about the quality of Charity Hospitals when veterans are stuck with VA Hospitals which are far worse.

Remember how this was sold to America? "The Affordable Healthcare Act"? It has become affordable for the 10% that will not pay for it and unafordable for the other 90% of America.

I read this in an quickie article on cnn.com (Obamacare: Is a $2,000 deductible 'affordable?' - Jun. 13, 2013

"The hardest question is will it be a good deal and will consumers be able to afford it," said Marian Mulkey, director of the health reform initiative at the California Healthcare Foundation. "The jury is still out. It depends on their circumstances."
Will consumers be able to afford it? It depends on their circumstances.

Well ain't that grand? Seems like the more things change, the more they stay the same eh?

How many of you think its an employers responsibility to provide healthcare to their employees?

If so, why do you think that?

Healthcare responsibility starts and ends with me, and the care only extends to my wife and children behind myself.

My employer assisting is a luxury.

I guess it depends upon the region and the facility, but the VA in Detroit has improved greatly over the past 20+ yrs and is actually a cost-effective alternative for me. Wasn't always that way though & there's still some things I raise my eyebrows at when I'm there.

The kids staying on their parents insurance until 26 ... I think there's a provision about them being students or something? For some reason, my daughter (23) is eligible to be on her mom's insurance to 26, yet my son (21) may not be.

What irks me is both are healthy and really don't need to be on any health insurance policy. Typically, paying less than $600-or-so annually out-of-pocket per person has sufficed to cover any/all healthcare expenses for everyone in the family, so many of these policies just don't make sense, other than having emergency room coverage.

They want to quit treating the uninsured on the back-end via the emergency room and start treating them on the front-end via preventive medicine in order to save on emergency room costs, I understand that and have no problem with it, but it seems like all the AHCA is going to do is be punitive in that it will focus on collecting the fines from those who still won't be able to afford health insurance.

What a mess,.

Yeah, the only difference I see is that when faced with a healthcare plan that offered high premiums and cost-prohibitive co-pays in the past, you could opt out, as I always would. Now you can't.

I'm waiting on a little more information before I recommend to my son to just pay the fine or not. Approx. 35% of his salary is projected to be deducted for healthcare he does not need or want, if the fine is less than 10% of his salary, he'll probably opt for the fine.

TMC's were the best!

Maybe it was just the duty stations I had but.... It didn't matter whether you had a toothache, missing a limb, or an unexplainable rash. You were going home with a bottle of ibuprofen. Nothing more, nothing less. LOL

And that is how it's all paid for,
It's so massive that every swinging Richard has to pay something whether he needs it wants it or not.

, Navy Corpsman assigned to the FMF had three standard cures for everything ... sudafed, aspirin, neosporin/hydrocortizone ... if that didn't help, it was all in your head,. I miss them boys,.
