Atlanta crippled by 2.5 inches

In case network news isn't reporting "the inside story", here is part of it. People are LIVID over the handling of this storm. Communication was poor and came late. Leaders at each level failed, and the results were staggering

Several thousand middle school or younger students sitting on buses for hours, or forced to stay at school overnight
Over a thousand cards abandoned over night, some after running out of gas, some whose just gave up.
Many commuters posted about their 30 minute commute taking 6-7 hours, and a large group of people were on 285 for 16 hours.

Mayor Reed and Gov. Deal both talked about lessons learned .The tenth largest city in the US is still learning how to pre-treat roads and limit vehicles. Interesting why we did not learn that before. I'm guessing the topic will come up in November for Deal who also presided over the weeklong closings 5 years ago.

Anyway, I stayed at school until 530 helping keep order, and then got on the roads which were not bad. Then 5 miles in I hit an ice covered hill that was a struggle, even w/ 6 guys pushing. Figured I was home free, but another hill, another issue. Finally bagged it- called my wife and started walking. after a mile she called and said cops weren't letting anyone else go. That added another .5 mile, but I didn't care.
3.5 hours went about 2 miles, and then had my 1.5 mile jog. Glad to be home 6 hours later than usual

On a related note... New Orleans was over prepared for the same ice storm that never really hit.

Better to look at it, than look for it.

Be careful. The snow is fine but the ice is what you have to worry about later.
