Joan Rivers dead at 81
 

Comedy legend Joan Rivers has died at the age of 81. She went into cardiac arrest on Aug. 28, and had been on life support at New York's Mount Sinai Hospital.

"It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully at 1:17 p.m. surrounded by family and close friends," her daughter Melissa Rivers said. "My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother."

E!, where she headed up the snarky talk show "Fashion Police," released a statement of condolence.

“She’s been a much beloved member of the E! family for over 20 years and the world is less funny without her in it," they said. "Today our hearts are heavy knowing Joan will not be bounding through the doors.”

The NYC Medical Examiner's Office told FOX411 it will be investigating the cause and manner of Rivers' death. “The death has been reported to us and the Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating," a rep said.

The Dept. of Health is also looking at the edoscopy clinic where she went into cardiac arrest during a minor throat procedure. “It’s a full investigation of the matter," their rep said.

I liked her. I remember watching her on the Tonight Show during the 1980's.

She was one of those people who had some low and broke times in life such as her husband and she pulled herself up. Those were really dark years and she really had to work hard and pull herself up and earn a living for herself. She and her husband were savvy business people and bought Faberge' Eggs. I think she sold them all or most of them. She had her QVC line and I bought some earrings way back in the mid 1990's. It was good, practical. and not too pricey.

Her death from some small, minor med procedure and then that was it.wow.

I really thought she could be medically pulled out of the medically induced coma and be ok , not the same but ok in a year after lots of therapy.

A great piece of American history dies. I loved Joan Rivers.
I watched her show the night before her surgery. She was great. E! will never replace her.

Joan has something for some of you people. ;) RIP Joan.

Ironic tragedy. Live by the scalpel, die by the scalpel.....

The human body has its limits and taking it past those warning signs has its consequences. Taking it past those limits out of vanity is idiotic.

On her 80th birthday she said she celebrated with her 80th face. Merely a white, female, version of Micheal Jackson.
