I agree with Tobias-Reiper, I think Payton is trying to motivate Meachum and make him step up his game Meachum had a great first pre-season game. he will only get better. Devery has NO HANDS. I don't care how fast he is. we need someone that can catch.
How many times last season did we open a series up in a three or four receiver set. The top two receivers is not as important as the top four receivers on a passing team.
I seen that wacky depth chart on the Saints "official" web site. Devery should only be used to stretch the field and not someone relied upon to play every down. Despite the depth chart, the starters are obviously Colston and Patten. IMO, Devery should be considered an offensive specialist. Just let the guy fly down the field with the hope of hitting a big play. Devery is not a good chain mover and will probably never develop into one.
Any LSU folks around? Did Devery have so many issues with catching the ball in college? All the stuff I've seen he did nothing but make plays. What's up?

Devery came to LSU as a running back and was moved to WR b/c of depth at RB... he did have lots of drop issues in college, but i wouldnt say it was this bad...
true Devery doesnt have the best hands in the world. But at least you know what you are getting. A guy who drops a few balls but catches some huge ones when it counts. As opposed to an unproven second year player who hasnt played a regular season snap. IMO Devery makes the team Meachem is icing on the cake.

Devery dropped 'em, and still does, as they all count(ed)...
I think that we are trying to build up devery and motivate Meachem. D.Henderson only trade value will come in the last round of cuts for a team that has a DB that is also going to be cut and needs a reciever. IMHO
