Yeah, I did not like the price tag on him ... figures the Rangers would take him, they like those big $$$ contracts, ie Redden, Messier, Gretzky, Shanahan, Lundqvist, Richards ... got a history of throwing money around, eh?
While I do think that in the long-run Columbus will be the winner of this trade, I can't help but to think that Howson is on some seriously thin ice when combining the Nash and Carter trades. They were certainly, allegedly, asking for much more from Detroit and San Jose than they got from the Rangers, but I guess the fact that Nash now went to an Eastern Conference team was the difference there.
Too bad Columbus doesn't really have any legit 1st line talent players left, because they sure have plenty of 2nd and 3rd liners.
Predators match Flyers offer, Shea Weber to stay in Nashville ... FlyersNation mourns, . Predators Match Flyers Offer, Shea Weber To Stay In Nashville - SB Nation Philly
NYR gave up Dubinsky and Anisimov, who are solid, but not top line guys, and Erixon (son of former Ranger Jan) a former first rounder. Columbus also get a #1 pick and potentially a third.
Yes, NY likes to spend its money. Still not sure if they have enough to win the East. They got Nash, but gave up quality depth.
I, for one, am not mourning. Holmgren will find another d-man, and probably for a lot cheaper
Since Nashville had previously stated they would match any offers for Weber, do you think it was Holmgren bidding Weber up, as was the case with Parise/Suter? I wonder how often he watches 'Storage Wars', .
