I'm doing a holiday party Saturday night for an oil services company, which means, of course, that half the guests will be from Lafayette.

I have a basic collection of everything, but I'd like to make sure I dont forget something really good. Remember, in the DJ biz, you're not playing offbeat, weird stuff-- you play the HITS. No indie, public access, weirdo stuff. Just the HITS, if you know what I mean.

What are my "must plays?"

Depends on the age group. As for indie or anything else, I disagree. I played a little choice indie and obscure stuff at my wedding and people liked it as long as you don't go off the deep end. Just wear a Tommy Hillfiger shirt and you'll be fine.

Outrageous party. We were in the Doubletree. Good age groups, late 20's up lot of 30s 40s 50s, and there was one full office from Lafayette. They never left the dance floor, Did a second line, greatly appreciated the Louisiana theme, and even did a Who Dat chant, when I casually mentioned I was on my way to the Dome.

Actually had a zydeco artist, Kevin Naquin, stop by, and I surprised him with some of his own songs. That was classic. He works with the company I was playing for.

Played Rosie, Clifton, and a number of classic artists too. Boozoo went over hugely. Not only was it a lot of fun, but I must say the guests knew how to party and could actually handle their alcohol, rather than turning into the amateurs I see often at holiday parties.
