Enough said...

I picked this song because I think about this kinda crap more than a normal person should, and, excluding the blues because blues is an emotion, I think this song is the best marriage of music and lyric I've ever heard.

What I mean is, if you read the words as purely poetry and then listened to the music without the words, you'd come away with the same emotion. It means something to me and something different to you and something different to someone else. I'ts razor sharp but it's melodic. It's descriptive but it's meaning is vague and relative.

...and I just really LOVE the Eagles...

Yessir. I've read a lot of Eagles stories, rumors, backstage stuff...etc etc...a lot of which I'm sure is complete bull.

I read somewhere a long time ago that he created that ending, more or less, on the fly in the studio. I suppose if I were as accomplished as he I might not find that so difficult to believe.

Dude! How can you hate the Eagles? I mean, I get it if you don't like that style of music, but man you went all caps on me. LOL

To second what you were saying about Hotel California being poetry. The same can be said of the song I posted, Change Gonna Come. If you strip away the literal music from it, and are just left with the lyrics to speak, it's one of the truest and most heartfelt things you'll ever hear. It is poetry. So I completely agree.

Fact I like about the song......Mick Taylor, 1979: "Can't You Hear Me Knocking is one of my favorites. (The jam at the end) just happened by accident; that was never planned. Towards the end of the song I just felt like carrying on playing. Everybody was putting their instruments down, but the tape was still rolling and it sounded good, so everybody quickly picked up their instruments again and carried on playing. It just happened, and it was a one-take thing. A lot of people seem to really like that part."

But I got tougher being on the road with the Eagles. I walked differently, I became more foulmouthed. I mean, I swore so much I sounded like a truck driver. But that's the way it was. I was the only girl on the road so the boys always kind of took charge. They were working for me, and yet it always seemed like I was working for them.

There's no way I could ever put the label "best song ever" on any one song, but right off the top of my head, here are a few of my favorites...

I wanted to include Domino by Van Morrison but couldn't find a version that gave it justice...also, here's one of my favorites that a lot of you guys should be familiar with...

saintfan 02-05-2011 08:49 PM

Yep. Good calls every one.

Choupique 02-26-2011 03:46 AM

Best song ever?
Get a grip.

I'd never say that about a single song.
