Suddenly, everyone is comparing how BIG a fan they are...

So, I've noticed a lot of people suddenly trying to say, "I've been a fan longer than you," or, "You just jumped on the band wagon." I have a cousin from the 'Sip who is a die-hard 49ers fan, has been since Saints v 49ers was the big rivalry. He started loving them when it was the Montana/Rice Dynasty. I feel like there are kids around the country now who will love the Saints for the rest of thier lives simply because how good they are doing this year. I say, the more the merrier. Sure, I want a little respect for being born into a Saints family but I don't diss anyone who wants to get a piece of the Saints action.

What's your take?

i think this should be either in the saints forum or the trash talk forum

either way......i like to think im the biggest saints fan around......and in canton, im easily the biggest saints fan lol.....but it doesnt matter to me how many people like the saints.....its about time we have a bandwagon

i love new fans as long as they dont toss us under the bus when we lose....true saints fans are the ones i will appreciate.....its the front runners that are with us this year and against us next year that i dont like

as far as arguing who is the biggest fan....im the biggest fan in my eyes....but im not going to look down on someone else who claims they are the biggest fan because there is allowed to be 2 biggest fans.....hell, theres allowed to be millions of biggest fans

and for the "longest fan" argument......im pretty young considering the age of posters around here......and i dont remember all the historic moments all the time.....but ive done my share of homework and ive rooted for my team whole-heartedly since devoting my fanhood....and i'll never root more for another team or cheer louder for another franchise

Re: Suddenly, everyone is comparing how BIG a fan they are...

I think the more the better. I have been a saints fan my whole life. Have I liked watching them the past 20 years? Not really except for the early 90's team that won games. It gets hard to keep watching a team that self implodes every year. I think we finally have a good set of players and coaches which is awesome. The more fans we get I think will help us keep the good guys we have and also attract other good players to want to come here because we win games. We the fans have the reponsibility to help make our team great I think. If we continue to put up performances like the MNF game and I'm talking about the fans not the players then we will continue to be a good team that may turn into a great team for the next decade. I mean it was freakin loud as hell in the dome that monday night.

atleast thats my opinion. take it for what its worth.

The Dirty Birds are gonna get PLUCKED!!!

AGAIN!!!

The long time fan knows who they are. Regardless I'm glad to share the good times....I just hope they stick around when the lean times come rolling around again in about 25 years.;)

Canton is that a reference to your speedo pic? lol

Look, I don't care when you became a fan. We cheer together, we jeer together and we party when the B&G is on top.

Just don't "act" like you've been around longer than you have...

.. not so long ago I posted a thread about being a little peeved over seeing hundreds of people in Disney wearing Saints gear :)

It's not a case of "I've been a fan longer" or "you are a bandwagon fan"...
..it's more like playing the Blues... you cannot play the Blues if you haven't suffered in life. So if someone just started to cheer for the Saints, one didn't suffer through the AB years, or the Ditka years, or know who Carl Smith is, or the fall of the Mora Empire years, or the "the Whiners are in our division" years, or the Bum years, or the baghead years, etc etc etc. one is here just for the happy times. One may be a "fan", and we do appreciate the support and the revenue it creates, and all of the benefits of hordes of people following the team, but one does not bleed black and gold.

Well stated Tobias. I couldn't agree more. I like it that the team is gathering a larger fan base but its a little tough to see people riding on their successes....especially when these are some of the same people who were calling us the AINTS in years past.

Still, I recognize too that some of it is generational. Some younger fans are probably really just seeing the Saints for the fist time this year....with all of the coverage. I remember a co-worker telling me that her teenage daughters heard many of Michael Jacksons popular songs for the FIRST time when they recieved mass repetition during the time of his death a couple months ago. I'm 30 so that sounds crazy to me, but its clear that this team is unlike any that we have rooted for in the past (in New Orleans anyway) so we should accept the new diverse fan base for what it is and enjoy the ride.

Re: Suddenly, everyone is comparing how BIG a fan they are...

many of us have rooted for them since birth, but i really dont care what others think. i know what a superbowl will mean to me and i know what this season has meant to every long time suffering fan so far. its awesome how people i havent talked to or seen in years send me texts out of nowhere with congratulations and just speak about how much fun the saints are to watch.....i try to explain to them that thats how ive felt for the last 20+ years so they understand a little. win or lose, i love this damn team and for once it finally feels like it might be our time.

personally, im doing all i can to contain my elation and not get overly excited, but ill be damned if im not through the roof after every sunday.

Re: Suddenly, everyone is comparing how BIG a fan they are...

I don't particularly go for bandwagon fans.
But the Saints do need a bit more love. They were always ignored and I hated that. So I will take more "fans" if it means the world recognises we exist.

I know a real Saints fan when I see them. Pretenders don't stand a chance.

Me, a big Saints fan? Not really. Only weigh 170 pounds.

So does that mean that most Cowboy fans hate each other?

Speaking of big fans...

I made up this joke a few years back...still waiting for my first laugh...anyway, here goes...

Why is it so windy in the Meadowlands? Because of all the Giant fans there.

Think about it...it will come to you.
