Cardinals working on way to keep Rolle around

While the Cardinals are expected to release safety Antrel Rolle if they can’t extend his contract before he’s due a $4 million bonus this month, NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi reports the team still would remain the favorite to re-sign the Pro Bowler.

Cardinals general manager Rod Graves has said the organization is working on restructuring and extending Rolle’s current deal, which calls for more than $8 million in salary.

Rolle, who’s entering the final year of his rookie deal, started 15 games in 2009 and came away with 72 tackles, four interceptions and 1.5 sacks. Originally drafted in the first round as a cornerback, he moved to safety full-time in 2008.

The five-year veteran has played in 68 games, and four of his 12 career interceptions have been returned for touchdowns.
