We’re getting our first listen this morning at Kevin Kolb as a starting NFL quarterback. The Eagles put Kolb at the podium in front of the Philadelphia-area media Monday to get his reaction following the trade of Donovan McNabb.

“Really, I didn’t even blink when Andy told me,” said Kolb about finding out about the trade. “I really didn’t. I’m excited about it. I think it’s true there will be a little bit of drama. At the same time, it’s going to be exciting, this is going to be a fun ride. I truly have that outlook on it. I’m looking forward to it. I think that this team will surprise some people.”

Kolb didn’t offer up anything earth-shattering, but spoke quite a bit about the confidence the Eagles have shown in him with the trade.

When it was brought up that McNabb has followed veterans Brian Westbrook and Brian Dawkins out the door, Kolb offered up that the team isn’t viewing the changes as rebuilding.

“I don’t want the sense of a team to ever be that it’s a rebuilding thing,” Kolb said. “Because it’s not in our minds. It never needs to be that way. They’re choosing to go this direction for a reason, because they have confidence in our talent. So, we need to prove that on the field and be ready to win a lot of ballgames and make a playoff run.”

Kolb did say he texted McNabb, and they plan to speak in the next couple of days. Can’t imagine they’d find anything to talk about.

“The guy has been nothing but 100 percent professional with me and nothing but a friend,” Kolb said of McNabb.
