Kolb takes every rep in practice, in line to start for Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid wouldn't confirm that Kevin Kolb is the starter for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Dallas Cowboys, but the quarterback handled all the reps in practice Friday as Michael Vick continued to rest his injured leg.

Dameshek: Hard to judge Vick
Dave Dameshek isn't sure what to make of the new Michael Vick. He doesn't know if Vick actually has been scared straight or if he just has good handlers. More ...
NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora confirmed Thursday that Kolb will start against the Cowboys, and Reid conceded Friday "it would obviously be a stretch" for Vick to play Sunday.

Vick is officially listed as questionable on the Eagles' injury report.

The Eagles (10-5) are locked into the No. 3 seed in the NFC playoffs, with their surprise loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday night costing them a shot at a first-round bye. They will open the postseason next weekend against either the Green Bay Packers, New York Giants or Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Kolb entered the season as Philadelphia's starter, but a Week 1 concussion, coupled with Vick's breakout performance as his substitute, relegated him to No. 2 status.

"Kevin's handled (the situation) with a lot of class," Reid told the Eagles' official website. "Obviously he wants to be out there ... but thank goodness that he and Michael have the relationship they have and they they're wired like they are."

Vick has emerged as an MVP candidate in his second season with the Eagles. He has thrown for 21 touchdowns with six interceptions, passed for 3,018 yards and rushed for 676. He was the leading vote-getter for this year's Pro Bowl.

Reid said Vick has spent the week trying to get healthy.

"He's been in with (trainer) Rick (Burkholder) and getting everything done that needs to be done," the coach said.

Vick missed three games in October with a rib injury. Both of Vick's injuries came on running plays.

Reid said he's not concerned that Vick is putting himself at risk by scrambling too much.

"This did happen on a run, (but) this was a little different," Reid said. "This wasn't a big hit or any of that. Actually, it was just somebody's elbow caught him ... between the slide pad and the knee pad, so kind of a freak deal.

"I think he's been doing better at getting down, and he's been working on getting out of bounds, doing those things so this wouldn't happen. This one, actually, he was diving down, and he got out of the way of a big hit."

Kolb is in line to see his first action since a Week 7 game against the Tennessee Titans. The Eagles are 8-3 this season when Vick starts and 2-2 with Kolb.

"The more reps you get, the more comfortable you feel, especially for a guy like me who hasn't played in a while," Kolb said. "We have to make sure that we're right for the playoffs, and it starts with us as backups doing the right thing on Sunday."

Vick is one of several players listed as questionable on the Eagles' injury report. Also listed as questionable are right tackle Winston Justice (knee), wide receiver DeSean Jackson (foot), defensive tackle Trevor Laws (shoulder) and cornerback Asante Samuel (knee). Middle linebacker Stewart Bradley (dislocated elbow) will not play.
