What a bunch of dumbasses. I don't think they did it on purpose, they are just stupid. All of them coaches, referees, players. One time maybe, but twice?

According to this article, before the game the Bears told the officials they were going to do it.

Well that's the officials fault then. That's like saying "I can do what I want these rules don't apply to me."

So can ever other kicker in the league DINK, your just special huh.

It has less to do with the Bears and more to do with the officials. They technically are the rule breakes. They knew a rule was being broken and did nothing. And how are they evaluating when that's not the way the game is played. You can only evaluate in the parameters of the rules.

I'm going to play Devils advocate here. The Bears informed the officials that they were planning to do this. If I want to kick off from behind the line of scrimmage that should be fine. It's like a speed limit sign doesn't tell you how slow to go just how fast. Unless there is a rule that says the ball must be on the line of scrimmage they should be able to kick from behind it. What about the center who pulls the ball off of the official spot to get it"just right"? As far as Smith wanting to evaluate his ST coverage, it's hard to do with a touch back.

Personally, I think the Bears coaching staff was trying to hold off on putting on the dresses as long as possible. I think it was done in protest. If the NFL wants to eliminate the run-back, they may as well eliminate the kickoff and just spot the ball on the 20. Otherwise let the boys play football and not tiddlywinks.
