RIP Al. I hope he died peacefully. This man accomplished tremendous things in Oakland and I'll be pulling for the Raiders tomorrow.

An NFL ICON. R.I.P Al.

AlaskaSaints 10-08-2011 10:08 AM

I must admit, I ''loved to hate'' the man at times. I think it was the flamboyancy, but I am saddened for his family and his organization at his passing. He lived a long, fulfilling life and bless him in his passing.

The Raiders may become truly formidable as a result...

I feel the same as Alaska. Nothing more to add. Good post Alaska.

RIP Al!

RailBoss 10-08-2011 10:34 AM

Yes sorry he passed on and condolences to his family. But I was no fan of his by any means. Mr. Davis did a lot for the NFL from what is written but reading the articles of his character over the years were less than what you would call sane or normal. Although to be fair there are very few owners in the league that I would say that I admire.

Pete 10-08-2011 10:37 AM

The man definately had his own approach and didn't give a dam what anybody else thought. He was a Raider I'd thought would make it to 100.
They'll Never be another AL DAVIS!(Even though JJ Tries)

R.I.P Mr.A.D

xan 10-08-2011 10:41 AM

What's going to happen now to that franchise?

mrsandlin 10-08-2011 10:42 AM

R.I.P. Mr.Davis, & Thank you for being apart of this great league.

Al Davis was his own man, one of a kind.
He'll be missed. Thanks Al.

It improves dramatically now that shackles have been removed. Yes, it is sad when anyone passes, but I'll guarantee you there is a sizable number of Raiders fans who have been looking forward to this day.

homerj07 10-08-2011 01:27 PM

Never liked him - but doesn't mean I do not feel bad for his family.

I do agree with Mitch that he was "one of a kind"

AlaskaSaints 10-08-2011 02:02 PM

I think the Raiders should change their colors to pink and sky-blue now that there will be new ownership. Imagine the effect that would have on the black-hole Raider nation! LOL

The last of the old schoolers.

This (the one my hat is in - not my heart) city owes a great deal to him. The Raiders bring in alot of money to this city - and my god do people her love them!

Does this mean I have to forgive him for the LA experiment?

Move back to LA (once more).

Condolences to his family, but like some have already mentioned before, I was never a fan of his and ultimately this will probably benefit the franchise.

QBREES9 10-08-2011 09:40 PM

Rest In Peace Mr Davis. You were a great friend to football. Thank You.

neugey 10-08-2011 10:06 PM

No Al Davis -> No Raiders success -> No AFL boom -> No AFL/NFL merger -> No NFL expansion -> No Saints

I don't think this is a stretch. We all owe Al a lot.

Mardigras9 10-09-2011 07:57 AM

Alaska has it right. However, Al has been one of their problems for several years now. He was what Jerry Jones will be in 15 yrs. It has been time for a change in Oakland for a while. Outside of football, R.I.P. and sorry to his family. Inside of football, his contributions are without question.

strato 10-09-2011 09:43 AM

NFL.com news: Davis family will keep ownership of Raiders, executive says

Saint_LB 10-09-2011 09:53 AM

RIP Al Davis. His contributions to the league are not measurable.
