Are the Niners a serious threat????

I just cannot make myself fear Alex Smith, in a play off scenario..... He is a notorious choker, and even with Harbaugh at head coach now, i dont see them winning in the post season. Not to mention, have u seen their schedule???? I do have bias, because i really hate the niners with a passion, but by football standpoint, i think its all smoke and mirrors.

yes

Fundamental football. They run the ball effectively, play good defense, and do just enough in the passing game with pass action passes and misdirection plays. The old school way of playing football still works... and they're a prime example of it. Good hard nosed football team that are contenders... but far from elite.

The 49ers are sneaky good. They are becoming a very solid team and Smith seems to be improving by leaps and bounds.

The Rams beat us....Every team is a threat!

SaintPauly 11-15-2011 02:49 PM

Their secondary is not that good. And besides the Giants, (at the stick), they haven't really played an elite QB yet. Romo carved them up, what do you think Rodgers, or Brees would do to them?

73Saint 11-15-2011 02:56 PM

Yes, I think they are a serious threat. That said, I hope like hell we get to play those bastards in the playoffs...We still owe them PLENTY of payback for all those years in the NFCW, when Montana, Rice, Young, Lott, etc. Owned the Saints!!!!

Lest we forget...

I agree. Their front seven mask their deficiencies in the secondary. They cover well with the short and intermediate routes because of their outstanding linebacking core. Their best corner is Carlos Rogers who is good, but has problems covering the deep ball... as the rest of their secondary does. The problem is whether or not you can defend their ability apply pressure to expose their weakness.

I love their front seven... it's a treat to watch for the hard knocks.

Yes, Alex Smith looked like a pro-bowl quarterback the last time he played us, and they have Gore who is a definite threat to our D.

Ding Ding Ding

I hate the 49ers with a passion but they are getting it done in an old fashioned way and confidence breeds confidence! So even completely useless QBs like Alex Smith start feeling like they can lead an army and turn into fantastic leaders of the offence.

I do however think that a couple of losses at the hands of the Ravens and the Steelers could bring them back down to earth and could cause that confidence to drift away and re-introduce their fundamental problems. They are a genuine threat in the post-season but not one that the Saints cannot overcome. Not to be taken lightly!

Not no 'mo. 49ers looked like GARBAGE tonight... they LOOKED LIKE THE TEAM WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!

You snatched the words right out of my mouth. There should have been at least 12-15 sacks in that game.

strato 11-25-2011 09:57 AM

Wait ..now we lost to the Rams...so they are still a threat..remember they flew across the country and played one of the best Ds in football...don't count em out yet...Dallas is looking like a threat now to...we will have our hands full the rest of the year...while some of these teams have a JV schedule...

WhoDat!656 11-25-2011 05:12 PM

We all said the same thing about the Seahawks.

In the playoffs, all teams are a threat/dangerous!

SaintPauly 11-28-2011 09:48 AM

You pressure Smith, and he folds. Ravens proved that. The defense is the only thing that kept that game close. Hit Smith, stop Gore, don't turn the ball over, beat the Niners.... Simple, but not so.....

kutu62 11-30-2011 11:57 AM

Saints won't sleep in the playoffs this year, no one will take them by surprise, not after that Seattle game last year I think they learned a leason.
