Gruden to Rams?
 

The Rams intend to hire Jon Gruden as their next head coach, sources tell the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Chargers beat writer Kevin Acee says that if GM A.J. Smith is fired, he'll replace Billy Devaney in the same capacity with the Rams. And Smith would bring his long-time friend Gruden to St. Louis with him. The Rams have Sam Bradford, possibly the top pick in the 2012 draft, and the most cap room of any team in 2013. It's also possible the Chargers will retain Smith, fire Norv Turner and attempt to lure Gruden to San Diego.

I'd love to get my hands on Spags if Williams moves on this off season... though I don't think it's likely.

Citing league sources, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that it is "all but certain" that Rams HC Steve Spagnuolo will take over as Eagles defensive coordinator in 2012.

Kevin Acee of the Union-Trib seconds NFL Network speculation that Rams owner Stan Kroenke will "clean house" after the season. Andy Reid recently gave current DC Juan Castillo the dreaded vote of confidence, but Profootballtalk reported three weeks ago that the change will have to be made in order for Reid to stick as head coach. Spagnuolo should be a major upgrade on the former offensive line coach.

They get to break out the chuckie dolls. I like Gruden but he does remind me of that doll.

I could see Gruden returning but I always thought it would be with a good team. Why would he want to leave his 4.5 mill, no pressure job to rebuild?

Personally, I like Gruden in the booth. We don't get much respect from broadcasters, but we do get some from him.

It's a little confusing considering he just signed a long term extension. I will certainly miss him in the booth.....he always had good things to say about the Saints.
He would have a good thing though considering he would already know how the GM thinks. He would have a high draft pick in all rounds and cap space to bring in some good Free Agents. He could have this team turned around in no time.

I know it makes me sound really cynical, but a lot of this stuff gets floated around as rumors at this time of year, because right now, at this very moment, the season ticket invoices are going out for next year's tickets for all these teams. And if a coach is vulnerable or is on the hot seat, this kind of talk can help get people to renew their seats, rather than cancel their tickets, even if it's just a rumor that Gruden or Cowherd or Ditka or whoever might be under consideration... it used to be Parcells and Jimmy Johnson who were always in the rumor mill like this, a few years ago. But I think some of it is just psychological, trying to get fans to pull the trigger on renewing those season tickets for a borderline bad team. Like MAYBE it will be Gruden so let's go ahead and do another year of games.
