Vikings - Governor: Metrodome site or nothing

Quote:

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Minnesota Vikings have been given an ultimatum of sorts in their quest for a new stadium.

Gov. Mark Dayton and a key lawmaker said Tuesday that the team must build on the site of the Metrodome -- its least-favorite option -- or state funding help for the multimillion-dollar project won't happen this year.

Minnesota's 2012 legislative session began Tuesday, one expected to be dominated by the team's stadium drive. But the issue came to a head more quickly than expected as Dayton confirmed that he had informed Vikings owner Zygi Wilf that a new stadium has to be built at the current site of the Metrodome in order to secure any kind of state funding from lawmakers this year.

Makes sense, the Governor's just trying to prevent from having a 'white elephant' on his hands with an empty Metrodome. The Pontiac Silverdome was built at a cost of over $55 million to the taxpayers and couldn't be sold or sufficiently utilized after the Lions vacated around 2001. It finally sold a year or two ago for under $600,000 ..... you can only have so many truck-pulls and SuperCrosses a year.

If they would move the Vikings i hope they would vacate the name like they did with the Browns.

I agree, it was hard to adjust to the 'Indianapolis Colts', the 'St. Louis Rams', 'LA Raiders' and the 'Phoenix Cardinals' ... for me anyway. I was glad Cleveland fought to keep the 'Browns' name ... it's an identity thing.

*hey Crusader, we got a hockey group going ... not that you're being recruited or anything ... :)

Yeah and eventually the NFL will expand to 40 teams, if the Vikings move let them be dormant and the franchise in LA be a completely new one.

Los Angeles deserves the Vikings ... gee, I wonder if it's one of the cities Jared Allen is okay with playing in? ... mullet-wearing assbag ...

I respectfully disagree SloMotion. In my opinion, Los Angeles doesn't deserve ANY NFL team...even the Vikings. They've had plenty of chances with The Rams and The Raiders, and they keep blowing it. They won't support their team. To hell with LA. I say keep the Vikes right where they are.

... upon further review, I agree, LA doesn't deserve a team ... and, um ... I'm trying to get a closer look at the players in your avatar ... um ... is that a Panther player (I'm assuming) Jimmie Graham is pulling into the endzone with him?

Agreed. The name of the team has to do with the city where the team was founded.
Saints belongs and makes sense to New Orleans. November 1 doesn't mean anything other than it is the 1st day of November in other cities.
Patriots makes sense being in Mass., and even called New England.
There are other football teams in the New England states and I don't which team came first, but NEP makes sense.
Phoenix Cardinals, are there Cardinal birds in Phoenix, AZ? LOL. I assume the heat there would smother them in flight, LOL!!!

That's Jimmy Graham fighting one of your boys, SloMotion, to get into the endzone in the Wildcard game in New Orleans. Took it myself from up in the rafters.

... ouch! ... the close up ... I had to ask, lol! I thought that was Amari Spievey trying to hold Graham out ... what a great shot though, can't believe you got that from the nose-bleeds. Checked out your other ones too, some nice shots.
