Listening, Drew?

Roethlisberger restructures deal for Steelers - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

With all due respect... Drew Brees was ranked 16th among quarterbacks as far as base salary in 2011. Will Smith makes more money then he does. The San Diego Chargers wouldn't offer him a solid contract due to his arm surgery.

Drew Brees has had the best six year run of any quarterback in NFL history. Roethlisberger had injury problems and can't even carry Brees' shoes. He deserves to be paid and he will.

If that means losing a Pro Bowl guard who wants the be the highest paid in the league? So what. Take Brees off this team and look at where our franchise was. Think Nicks would make a difference with Aaron Brooks under center, lets say? Nope. Take Nicks out and have the Saints draft another guard in the 4th round or later (which ALL FOUR of the Saints Pro-Bowl linemen were 4th rounders and out). Still a playoff team and SB contender.

Drew doesn't have to take money. If NICKS don't want to take less money, let him walk. He's paid his dues.

ScottF 02-24-2012 06:10 PM

I get it. He 'deserves' the money, as much as anyone really could deserve $20million a year.
My point, and a lot of people's point, is that Drew could take 2 mill a year less and not worry about poor guard play for the rest of his career.
Brees has made over 100 mill, and stands to make another 100 mill before he retires. How much of that would he trade for a better shot at another ring?

The reality is he is going to make $50,000 A DAY next year. Think about that when and if the cost of living raise kicks in for the average fan

I understand completely and I think he should leave money on the table as well as anyone else. The likelihood of that happening is slim. I just can't see it as much as want to. I know he is willing to, that part makes it possible, but with there being NO talks with Carl Nicks AT ALL and limited with Marques Colston, it makes it really really unlikely that even WITH a pay cut that Carl Nicks will be back.

If the talks with Drew are taking this long you would have to assume Nicks isn't going to be an overnight deal since they haven't had any negotiations. The Saints know what he wants and have an idea, but you just never know how long that could drag out.

With the amount of time this deal is taking to get done, I just see Colston likely to be tagged/re-signed than Nicks.. Especially since Nicks has gone on record saying he doesn't want to be tagged, etc.

I also believe even with Nicks out of the line-up we are contenders next season. But I'm with you on certainly a better shot with three Pro Bowlers on the line.

Drew should demand as much money as he can get.

The Saints should pay him the least they can get away with.

If both sides are pissed off, it was a great deal.

If I know Drew, and I dont, but the kind of person he seems to be, it wouldnt suprise me if we announced moves on Brees, Colston and Nicks in the same day. We have done it before, cant remember with whom, but I bet Nicks and Colstons name are coming up in Brees' contract talks more than we think.....

That sounds like something Brees would prefer. A big-three press conference. No prima donnas here (or pre-madonna's either).

.

I am going to be optimistic and say that the Brees deal taking awhile is because they are looking at Nicks' deal at the same time.

I disagree with you on the Nicks deal; I think it will happen very quickly after Drew's deal, and definitely before FA starts. I see Loomis offering just slightly more than Evans got, and then saying if you don't take it, we are tagging you.

They can look at Nicks deal all they want, but there has been absolutely no contact with Nicks. That's what makes it an issue. They can say "Well, we can off him a bit more than Evans," but they really have no figure that they know he is comfortable with. All you know is he wants Evans deal + inflation.

Would I tag Nicks over Colston? Obviously. I even made an article on why.

Here's the thing though. Why tag a player who is saying he is disheartened, who doesn't want to get tagged and risk the distractions that come with a possible hold out? This is why I said as time ticks away, Loomis may consider having to allow Nicks to test the market. The Saints have him wanting to come back, so that's a bonus. A big one. So anything in the ballpark would likely land a deal and make negotiations go quick, sure.

I will stand by it and assume the Saints would rather gamble with tagging Nicks and negotiating with Colston and Nicks during that time than to simply let him walk... But, I do believe that as time ticks it increases the liklihood that we consider other options too. But that's all assuming Brees is done by March 5th also.

Drew can learn nothing from Rapistberger.

tazdev454 03-05-2012 08:19 AM

This all comes down to the Saints offerering Brady money and Drew's agent wanting Manning money. Meet in the middle somewhere and get the deal done! Though if you look at the Colts and the Patriots they are making due with a lot more journeyman non-star players because of the large qb contract. Drew really needs to look at that and have a talk with his agent about leaving something on the table.

The Carolina Panthers are going to rock you guys this year! Your team is falling apart at every seam. Your QB is disgruntled. You are about to lose draft picks and suspensions... plus several players to free agency. Bring it on! Who dat?? Not the Saints! LOL

CP4, I wouldn't start flappin your lips just yet. Saints are still the best team in the division. We could still win without Drew. Your scam newton was a fluke, he will be the one falling apart this year. Count on it. WHO DAT

Wishful thinking arsehole. How are you going from below mediocre to above average? Your GM and Coach just aren't very good. Cam Newton is a trick and pony show. Keep dreaming...................come on back mid season to state your case again. My guess is you won't be trolling here then!!!! ROFLMAO
