An attorney's perspective on Saints' penalties

this is a discussion within the NFL Community Forum; This guy makes some points that perfectly lay out why most us, myself included, have been upset and have every right to be. Why the New Orleans Saints bounty penalties are too harsh - Steph Stradley Blog Some of you ...

Some of you may have seen this elsewhere, and if so, I apologize, but want to make sure everyone see's it.

Well this is so true, I said this before in a different post. We will be the ones who will be hurt the most. Coaches and players come and go, but the love we have for this team will take the ultimate hit here. The window of winning the whole damn thing is very short. This is because coaches and players do move on.
Now you have shortened our opportunity dramatically, draft picks taken away, players that are going to be suspended. Coaches sitting out for x amount of games, some out for a hell of a lot longer than that.
It's going to be like turning the clock back to when I remember paper planes was the only entertainment going on in the dome. Tickets stuck outside the dome cause no one wants to pay to see a sorry ass product.
So what should be done is just fine the HELL out of the guilty parties, and leave the staff in place. or just suspend them for a few games.
Screw you Roger oh and ps Roger I have just cancelled my NFL Ticket too. Thanks for all you have done, your such a stand up kinda of guy..........ya dink

I HATE ATLANTA

I always like reading the comments after an article like this. The crazies want criminal charges pressed. For what logical reason? There are a lot of big hits in the NFL & NHL, which some appear to be intentional i.e. Lions SU & Steelers Harrison. I didn't hear anyone calling for criminal charges then. The refs are there to monitor those extreme hits & call the appropriate penalties. Maybe we should replace the refs with police officers. The NFL players are our warriors on the field representing our cities & states in battle. And a physical battle it is. I firmly believe no one should be intentionally trying to hurt anyone bounty or no bounty. Goodell already has fines & suspensions at his disposal when he feels a player or players have crossed the line. He used neither of those when the investigation began in 2009. Why? Because there were NO on field violations.

That was a good article. He makes a lot of valid points about how the punishments were vengeance rather than justice, and how it is punishing the innocent paying fans in the stands, for something they didn't have any control over (things I've been complaining about to anyone who'll listen since day one).

Throughout this whole mess, I don't think ONE person in the media except this guy, has spoken up for the actual, paying, INNOCENT season ticket-holding fans in the stands, who are going to be impacted by this. The actual paying customers in the Dome will suffer and pay, and yet they had NOTHING to do with the bounties or with any kind of disrespect for "the shield" or the commissioner. Total disregard for them on the commissioner's part.
