NFL Draft Day 1

Winners

New England hit the ball out the ball park yesterday. Putting Hightower next to Mayo is beastly. They needed to address their pass rush and Jones fit the bill.

Detroit Lions had a nice pick with Reiff down at 23. No better way to keep that offense churning than keeping Stafford on his feet.

Cleveland Browns did well with a franchise back and Weeden even though he is 29. That said, they could probably have landed him in the 2nd with all the teams behind them not needing a quarterback.

Losers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers for overplaying their hand... not because they didn't draft good players. They traded down and did not land Richardson or Claiborne and settled for Barron and Martin.

Kansas City with the drafting of Poe. Weak conference and was not able to dominate. Bad film and has the inkling of being a work out warrior.

San Fran 49ers with AJ Jenkins. Reports have one team rating as the top wide out in the draft and it probably was them. Projected last 2nd rounder taken at the bottom of the first. The Bucs and Giants do not have a need for a WR.

Personally I don't like the pick of Brandon Weeden. 28 is pretty old considering it takes an average QB a good 3-4 years to be considered "experienced" in the NFL. But the guy is crazy accurate and could prove me wrong.

Also, I think another winner is the Chargers taking Melvin Ingram at 18.

I watched the NFL Network coverage and although the 1st round in itself was fast moving and more exciting than previous years - due to them not spoiling the picks beforehand - the Michael Irwin "I love the commissioner" love-fest was bit too much to take. Luckily Mayock was his insightful self, which made the other fools around that table bearable.

And of course Goodell getting boo'd was nice to hear. ;-)

That was a great pick as well. I liked DeCastro to the Steelers too.

They probably were better suited taking a wide out with that pick and Weeden in the second.

Fortunately I got to miss that... never was a big fan of his broadcasting abilities.

The Ravens trading down, and still getting a player like Upshaw? Its simply not fair.

If we didn't have Loomis, I'd want Ozzie Newsome leading my drafts all day long.

I missed it.
