A trio of marijuana-related arrests for the Detroit Lions this offseason is indicative of a more widespread problem plaguing the league, according to one former NFL offensive lineman.
, when I saw the headline even before I read the article, I thought, "and probably 50% of that 50% play for the Lions" ... I shouldn't be joking about it though, and to the Lions' credit, the Fords (owners) don't take those kind of violations lightly ... there's no doubt in my mind that those players have already been told that regardless of their status with the team & whether they're 'superstars' or not, they'll be discharged from the team.

I don't understand these players sometimes ... if you're going to do something like that, do it in the comfort of your own home, why take a chance with your career by driving around or doing it out in public?

They don't think.

That is true ... of a lot of professional athletes ... it reminds me of an old Gordie Howe quote ... when asked by a reporter as to why he didn't wear a helmet during games but wore a cup, Gordie replied, "You can always hire someone to do your thinking for you" ... now that they're in the big leagues, maybe they figure someone else will do thier thinking for them.

They are just young adults, when i was that age. My god I did it all too, I could have lost my job, went to jail. the same goes for them. So what if I wasn't in the spot light. I still would have paid the price for what I was doing. Still I didn't care, I was in it for the party, the fun. All of my friends did it so, of course I did it too. Yes I know it doesn't make it right.
I'm just saying look at there backgrounds, look at the environment they where brought up in. Not all of them, but for the most part.
So yes they don't think, or if they do... they just really don't care.

Yeah, and at least 50% of them drink alcohol. What is the big deal? Marijuana was made illegal after a widespread smear campaign on the "drug" decades ago. The researchers said the same thing said about the "drug" then that they do today.....it's over rated. Marijuana use is not to be compared to the horrors of alcoholism.:argue:

... yeah, we all took our chances when we were young, but we weren't multi-million dollar athletes with bright careers ahead of us either ... if I had been jeopardizing contracts like those guys have, I probably wouldn't have pulled 1/2 the crap I did ... I could care less if a guy wants to smoke dope or drink, just if you're representing my team & gonna' be in the public eye, use some discretion for crissake.

They get into the habit of believing they are above the law, like many celebrities or people who make that kind of money. Of course, alot of them get away with far more than the average joe would should they be caught in similar circumstances. Sometimes they are just actually held responsible.
