Dan Marino

Fan's Take: Is Dan Marino the Best NFL Quarterback Without a Super Bowl Title? - Yahoo! Sports

It's either Marino or Kelly. Marino had a better arm, Kelly probably had a higher football IQ. Both were awfully good.

Dan Fouts too. He was one of the best. Air Coryell. Dan was great.

Marino and Kelly are guys you wish would have won a title. Montana could have shared a little, that greedy bastard ;-)

Marino gets my vote by the sheer fact of a Hootie and the Blowfish connection...

... always a great debate, but I think I usually end up sticking with Marino because of the individual stats he set ... always felt bad for Jim Kelly/Fran Tarkenton never winning the big one, Dan Fouts/Warren Moon too ... those guys had some memorable seasons/games/teams ... but I think Marino is the best of that group.

When you consider that Jim Kelly took the Bills to FOUR CONSECUTIVE Super Bowls, something no other QB has done, or probably ever will do again, makes him, IMO, the unquestionable winner of this poll!

If Marino was 'SO" good, why was he only able to get the Dolphins to a single uper Bowl?

And I am not saying Marino isn't a Hall of Fame QB, but a guy that has been to 4 Super Bowls in 4 years, is a lot better than the QB that only got to one in his career!

IDK, I look at going to the Super Bowl and four consectutive Super Bowls as more of a team accomplishment then an individual one ... the fact Marino only went to one is more a reflection of Miami having to go through those great Buffalo teams of the 90's in the playoffs more then an indictment of Marino ... having four opportunities to win a SuperBowl and failing each time however, is something I would view as an individual shortcoming on a QB's part, ie Kelly.

Consider this ... what would Buffalo's SuperBowl record be today had Dan Marino/Jim Kelly traded places? I'd imagine Buffalo would probably have won 2 or 3 of those games and I still don't think Miami would have advanced past Buffalo in any of those playoffs, even with Jim Kelly at the helm.

Both were elite QB's and deserving of a SB ring, but if we're going to debate it, I'm going with Marino.

What's Jim Kelly doing these days anyway? Marino has his commercials & the Ace Ventura movie, you never see Jim Kelly ... must have invested his money wisely, guys like that usually do,.

Football is the ultimate team game, and I didn't mean to imply that the Bills going to 4 straight Super Bowls was solely due to Kelly or Marino's lack of multiple Super Bowl appearance's was his.

I agree that both are elite QBs, but I have to give the nod to Kelly. It is hard enough for a team to get to its 1st Super Bowl, look at your Lions for example. But I would have to give the nod to the QB that got to 4 straight Super Bowls over a QB that only got to one.

Although I do believe that if Stafford stays healthy and the team can get the off-field player issues under control, the Lions will be the next team to make its Super Bowl debut.

But

SloMotion 07-06-2012 04:06 PM

... I can respect that because there's valid argument for both and it's one of those things that'll never be decided ... and you did kinda' rabbit-punch me with the Lions comparison, ... just kidding ... I'm cautiously optimistic about Detroit's chances, they have the injury issues, the maturity issues, the suspension issues and a few other things to work through, but yeah, among the teams that have never made it to the show, I like our chances at being next, :).
