Meachem gives Chargers a scare Wednesday night

Michael Gehlken of the Union-Tribune San Diego reports that Chargers receiver Robert Meachem suffered a possible injury in Wednesday night’s training camp practice. Per Gehlken, the injury was to Meachem’s right leg, and possibly his right knee.

I hope that all it is was a tweak, and he has a great year for them

Dam that would suck. I'd still like to see Meach do well.

I wish Mech the best he's a good player and person.

Kosoma 08-05-2012 02:15 PM

i wish we could have kept meachem. it seems like every time he caught a ball it was a 40 yard td.
given a choice id have rather seen colston go. at least meachem is a legitimate deep threat.

Oh No you didn't !

colston is good because he has brees throwing to him. if you guys cant see that then i picked the wrong saints board to join. i like good football discussions not wagoners spouting whatever garbage they hear on espn.

If Colston is good because Drew is throwing to him, what's that make Meachem? Colston was better than Meachem when Drew was throwing to both

I think at 6 posts you might want to slow your roll just a bit sir. :hallucinate:

I see a short-lived stint at B-n-G for someone.

QBREES9 08-09-2012 01:01 PM

I'd like to see him play.

This!! I loved Meachem, but I'll take Colston any day and I hate ESPN. Don't need anyone to tell me that the best decision was made to keep Colston!

Hopefully we won't ever know but, in my opinion, "Brees throwing to him" or more specifically, being on the Saints team, works against Colston. Drew spreads the ball to more targets than just about anybody else in the NFL. Colston had the second fewest targets out of the top 20 receivers (yardage) last season. Besides his ability to box out defenders and get the ball in traffic, he has a fantastic reception percentage over his career. Last season it was 74.7%. That's outstanding. You won't find many other receivers with a percentage that high.

2011 NFL Player Receiving Stats - National Football League - ESPN

As a frame of reference;

Calvin Johnson's completion percentage was 61.5%
Wes Welker's was 70.9%
Steve Smith's was 61.2%
And Dropsy White's was 55.2% (when will he ever get the respect he deserves?)

That makes Colston one of the most efficient wide receivers in the NFL. Only Jordy Nelson is more efficient.

The Profootballfocus guys even named a type of slot receiver after him. Tall intermediate/deep threat guys are the "Colstons".

There's no doubt that Colston benefits from playing with Brees, Brees would make any receiver better, but there is also little doubt that Colston would be a great receiver just about anywhere he played.

I apologize for all the stats, I'm a bit of a stat nerd myself but I tried to use as much data as I could so that I wouldn't just sound like a "wagoners spouting whatever garbage they hear on espn". ;)

So what you're saying is you're gonna leave if we don't get our act together. Well sir-you drive a hard bargain, but I guess you're going to be leaving. Thanks for kind words.
