Michael Irvin wants to add Bill Belichick’s name to the Lombardi trophy

"I'll take 'One Of The Stupidest Things Ever Said' for $500 Alex"

Michael Irvin spent some time at New England Patriots where he not only got a glimpse of this year’s Patriots squad, but he also got the chance to tell head coach Bill Belichick how much he admires him. But Irvin didn’t stop there, oh no. Irvin proceeded to take things to the next level by telling Belichick that he believes that his name should be on the Lombardi trophy.

... is Irvin involved in the NFL concussion lawsuit? Seems like he was hit one too many times.

He would be the league's worst nightmare as a witness; just think of the hours of tape of him talking as a player and analyst the lawyers could use!!

I kinda like Irvin. I sat next to him at a Dallas Arena League game a few years ago. Dude was in to it. It was fun.

But....

This has got to be the dumbest thing he's ever said, and he's said some pretty dumb things in his time.

Couldn't he just be saying that as a compliment to Belichick? Nah.. it's not like bloggers/media/talking heads blow things out of proportion, no Sir.

As for Vince Lombardi, ok, so the Packers won some championships in the sixties, and the NFL named its trophy after him... good. But like many a case, he has been been made into myth, made legend, by a PR machine, and his snarky comments and written speeches elevated to wisdom, when in reality the dude was one of the biggest a-holes around, and didn't contribute a tenth of what Bill Walsh or Don Coryell contributed to the game.

Is the coke or the crack kicking in. What is he thinking

Snarky comments? Vince Lombardi? ... oh man, I have never heard it put that way before, ... I don't know what to say, I've always held him in such high esteem ... that man deserves every single prop he's ever been given ... yes, he was a bit of a disciplinarian/perfectionist, but Lombardi was a product of the times & his environment ... that's how football was back "When Pride Still Mattered" ... which is the title of Lombardi's book (and should be read by all football enthusiasts) for those not familiar with his work,.

... and I do think Irvin was just trying to compliment Belichik without insult to Lombardi, he just probably could of used a different/better example that wouldn't have drawn so much attention.

No... Irvin can forget it.

I always thought the name was Belichek and not Belichick?

Saint_LB 08-05-2012 07:49 AM

If Dallas would have been able to stop Starr a few inches shorter in the Ice Bowl, would Lombardi's name be on the Lombardi?
