Asante Samuel could be sliding out of the starting lineup

While Samuel prefers the left side, he was frozen by a stutter step and then burned for a 50-yard touchdown pass by Bengals receiver A.J. Green.

The Falcons have given no indication that Samuel could be in trouble of not making the team, but we’re getting closer to the day when there will be inevitable surprises as rosters get slashed from 90 to 53.

What did they give up to get him? Seems kind of a waste if he's not starting, unless they stay in nickle/dime 70%+ of the time...

The Falcons gave up only a seventh-round draft pick Wednesday when they acquired the four-time Pro Bowl cornerback from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Brees has got to be stoked. From what I read about that play, Asante got "set up" for it over a series of plays, where Green ran kinda similar routes but didn't run full speed for several plays beforehand, making Asante think that was all the juice Green had, then Green hit him with the stutter step move to get past him. The Saints and Brees excel at that type of deception, where you set something up for later, over a series of plays. Awesome.

I was reading some Philly fans comments when he left them this spring.

They weren't all that disappointed. Almost to a person, the Eagles fans felt he was still pretty sneaky for a cornerback and that he occasionally jumped routes when he fooled the quarterback but that he got burnt a lot lately. They felt he'd lost a step.

He had a big salary with the Eagles. He renegotiated with the Falcons so he's much more "cap friendly" now.

I am surprised he can't clearly beat out Dunta Robinson though.

We gave up a 7th round pick. The Eagles needed more cap, space, so they traded him to us. Dunta Robinson will be the one in the nickel.

I want Robinson to be a slot corner, and that's it. All he's done is get burned.

Didn't Asante get burned twice last week? Once on that TD catch where Green caught that pass right on the line, so no catch... Then he made himself look stupid, trying to defend a double move...

That Falcons defense is why I dont think the offense is going to be anything much since everyone will see they going to pass it more than then ever did.

Matt Ryan in a more passing offense has gotten the Falcons in so much trouble before.

They don't have the offensive line to keep Ryan protected when defenses are blitzing...

And Matt Ryan doesn't have the arm to put the ball in a small spot downfield without an extra step forward and a wind up. They say he's been working out though, we'll have to see if that changes his deep ball throwing motion.

well that and Ryan has a habit of making poor decisions, I got a habit of comparing Ryan to Romo because like Romo, he tends to target 1 guy too much. This is why I think Julio Jones looks so good, I think the verdict is still out on him though, I think we going to see a crash and burn offense in Atl this year where most people is expecting them to be a ferrari offense as Roddy White likes to think.
