Falcons win but struggle

The Falcons did manage to stop their seven-game exhibition season losing streak and helped coach Mike Smith improve his record to 4-1 in the important third exhibition-season games.

They had the longest active losing streak of preseason games in the NFL.

They struggled but you know.......

That was just Miami.

What they got in the NFC is going to be tougher than that.

We went in to that game with a vanilla gameplan. MS even said so before the game. We didn't even go no huddle.

excuses... The 3rd preseason game is the dress rehearsal for the regular season, where the starters usually play most of the 3rd and treat it like a regular season game.

The Falcons were no exception, the starters played the first half and some of the third. And scored what 9 points in the first half, against the dolphins... lol

Typically, the third game is a confidence builder game. Think the falcons 1st stringers were confident coming out of that game?

And why do you think they went vanilla, isn't the whole point of changing the offense to become more dynamic? Why would they go vanilla in their last real chance to practice against another team?

Who is MS?

I dont believe for a minute the Falcons went Vanilla.

I honestly dont believe they have went Vanilla all preseason and that is probably why they only got 9 pts when the 1st string was in there.

On the team's first offensive drive, the Falcons elected to go for a fourth-and-2 from Miami's 33, but running back Jacquizz Rodgers was dropped for a 2-yard loss.
Welcome to the real world, Falcons fans. Sounds like you are living through the Giants and Saints nightmare games all over again to me. Watching your fans turn on your coach this year and eat him alive for this kind of nonsense is going to be even more fun than Shark Week.

The starters scored 16 points.

MS said they didn't want to give away too much before week 1. I'm taking his word for it. Our play-calling should be a bit different in the regular season. We weren't showing our hand. Come week one, we should be fine.

To be fair though...

The touchdown came in the 3rd quarter when the falcons starting offense was playing against the Dolphins second string defense.

Honest question...

If they weren't practicing their normal offense, why play the starters into the second half? Seems they would just be risking injury to their starters for no reason. And you'd think since the first big roster cuts come Monday, they might wanna get to see more of the bubble guys.

Pretty obvious to me, when you play your starters in the 3rd quarter of a meaningless preseason game, there is something kinda wrong there, like you are trying to get a cheap confidence building touchdown or something. 9 points in a half is not very good for a starting offense that had scoring problems last year in *cough* playoff games and overtime.

Well last 2-3 years in the preseason games they have had problems scoring, especially in those 3rd games where it means the most.

That has carried over into the regular season.

It looks like that production is not changing any from last year like many are thinking it will.

Like I said, their was no upgrade of Koetter over Mularkey, so far Mularkey has not done too bad this preseason in Jacksonville where Koetter absolutely did squat.
