Dolphins safety Jonathon Amaya arrested in Miami
The Dolphins got a win over the Seahawks at home on Sunday afternoon and safety Jonathon Amaya went out until the wee hours of the morning celebrating the win.
There’s not much to celebrate about the way the night ended for Amaya, however. NBC Miami reports that Amaya was arrested on charges of battery of a taxi driver after being picked up outside a club around 4:30 a.m.
According to the police report, Amaya promised the driver a $100 tip to take him to an area that the driver normally didn’t go. During the ride, Amaya allegedly became “aggressive” and the driver returned to the spot where the ride began before telling Amaya to get out of the car. The driver told police that Amaya “leaned forward and wrapped his hands around [the driver's] neck and started choking him” and two off-duty police officers who were working at the club heard the driver yelling that Amaya was going to kill him.
Amaya has six tackles in eight games playing mostly special teams for the Dolphins in 2012. He played 16 games for the Saints last season after starting his career with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2010.
