A player can't move to another team while he's under contract. Also another team can only acquire a player under contract through a trade with the team he is under contract with.

Boutte, thanks for the info. Do if I understand you right it is a question of money uf a player changes to another team while being under contract. Right?

He can't change teams while under contract. The only way a player can go to another team while he's under contract is if his team trades him. A team can cut a contracted player whenever it wants to but if his contract includes any guaranteed money such as signing bonus they have to pay him in full and that amount applies against the salary cap. That's why teams won't cut players who aren't living up to their contract.
