Wow Bucs traded the house for Revis

New York Jets to trade Darrelle Revis to Tampa Bay Buccaneers, pending physical -- source - ESPN New York

Gave up their 13th plus other draft pics. I think this is a horrible move and is good for us. Gave up WAY too much.

Trade official: Darrelle Revis passed physical. Bucs send 1st in 2013 and conditional 4th in 2014 that could be 3rd to Jets. More on ESPNews

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter 4m
Darrelle Revis received a 6-yr deal from the Bucs that makes him highest paid DB in NFL history but includes NO guaranteed money. None.

Darrelle signed six-year, $96 million deal with Bucs. This year he will make $16 million. Makes $16 million each year. Ripped up old deal.

Re: Wow Bucs traded the house for Revis

Crazy, but the fact that there's no guaranteed money does make the financial side of it a bit more bearable.

Still, they are wasting too much money on just a few individuals on that team to ever become a serious contender, and giving away their 1st and potentially a 3rd next year is a steep price to sign a DB.

Jets announce the conditional 2014 4th-rounder become a 3rd-rounder if Revis is on TB's roster on 3rd day of '14 league year. So it's a 3rd

Re: Wow Bucs traded the house for Revis

I have to say I think the Bucs got a pretty good deal here. 1st and 3rd for Revis is solid as long as he is healthy. They have a lot of cap room and our division is very pass heavy so it was aggressive move that could be very good form them. Also, no guaranteed money protects Tampa in case Revis has health problems. If Revis he can be a big upgrade to their defense.

Checked Jets and Bucs forums, Jets fans think they got fleeced and should of gotten more, Bucs fans very happy with the deal.

I will absolutely love watching Brees make him look like Jason David.

Who is the starter opposite Revis? Eric Wright?

I do agree with you on that the Jets should've probably gotten more out of this deal, but they just didn't have the leverage or enough potential suitors to drive up the price.

Still, $16M/yr for a DB is way too much money even if one has the cap space for such a move.

ChrisXVI 04-21-2013 05:07 PM

Re: Wow Bucs traded the house for Revis

Revis can only cover one receiver. Eric Wright is atrocious and none of their other DB's can effectively cover all of the options we have in the passing game. So go ahead and let them pay Revis $16 million/year to cover Colston while Moore, Morgan, Toon, Graham, Sproles, Thomas, Watson, etc. score TD after TD against them.

On the flip side, the Jets are basically saying that it's more important to keep Mark Sanchez rather than the best player on their team.

Where have you been Liv? Yeah, the Jets might get some good players out of this deal. Tampa definitely got a real good player. But then there's all the distractions next year with the contract hold out that they will have. I'm just glad they got some one to stir up the hornets nest.

Re: Wow Bucs traded the house for Revis

wright is at safety cb still needs to addressed

anyways a win win in my book

bucs take a another large contract and fill the cap for next year

bucs send pick out of the nfc to the afc.

Yet it does not help us much in the draft because the team needs are about the same.
my guess @9 Outside Linebacker - Ansah or Mingo

so @13
Safety - Vaccaro
Corner back - Trufant or Rhodes
Wide Receiver - Austin
Offensive Guard - Cooper

Tight End
Quarterback
Defensive Tackle
Running Back

Work has been brutal lately. Annoying having to change the teaching curriculum for these ridiculous standardized tests. Luckily they're almost over.

As for Revis, he is a good player but he focuses on the money part of the game more than most. I'm sure he'll find something to complain about once a different defensive player gets more money than him, it's just the way he is. If he's happy and healthy this is a solid trade for the Bucs. I think the Bucs made an aggressive move that I like. As for the Jets, yeah they didn't get great value but their FO did a terrible job managing this situation. Every team knew they wanted to trade him so they hurt his value.

6 year 96 million? That's QB money! Ha!!!! The trade wasn't bad but the deal they gave him is ridiculous! Way to go TB! Hope you're happy being mediocre for several seasons.

They are screwed 6 ways to Sunday on Sanchez. Idiot GM (who got canned) gave the dude so much cash that they can't afford to cut bait with him this year.

I'll be surprised if they don't finish last in the division if they are seriously going to let Mark "Butt Fumble" Sanchez grab another snap.

Watching the Jets (and Sanchez) with my son gave me a whole new appreciation for Aaron Brooks! At least AB occasionally made GOOD plays!

And won't Freeman be needing a new contract soon? Thats gonna be another big hit to their cap as well. The Bucs are gonna be as crippled as we are but at least we have a future HOF QB to show for it.

The Bucs did not give away the house, I thought the Jets would get a lot more the a first and 3rd/4th next year. IMO, great trade for the Bucs, if he is fully healthy.

The way players are restructuring these days, that won't be a problem.

That reminds me of a great quote for soccer coach Bill Shankly when asked about local rivals Everton.
Now to be stolen by me

We hardly gave up that much for Mark Ingram.

LOOKING AT OAKLAND'S PICKS OVER THE LAST DECADE IT'S OBVIOUS AL DAVIS WAS IN SENILITY DURING HIS DRAFTS! I mean i I don't blame them entirely on the picking JaMarcus Russell because he didn't have his head on straight but that's not entirely his fault because Oakland didn't have structure or discipline there for him they didn't hold him accountable so he never had a chance to respond to mistakes or correct his bad habits or things he needed to improve upon and now I know why he wasn't thinking straight his father figure died and it affected him and I believe he didn't have anyone to check him when he was needing to be checked. PEOPLE NEED FATHER FIGURES FOR THAT EXACT REASON SOMEONE TO HOLD YOUR LIFE'S ACTIONS TO THEIR ACCOUNTABLE STANDARDS! Life isn't about success or failure but what you do with that success or failure HOW DO YOU RESPOND FROM ADVERSITY AND TRIAL AND TRIBULATION OR HOW DO YOU HANDLE OTHERS TRIALS AND TRIBULATION OR HOW DO YOU HELP OTHERS THROUGH THAT ADVERSITY OR SITUATION! LIFE IS ABOUT MAKING LIFE A SUCCESS WHICH IS ALWAYS THROUGH LOVE WHETHER IT'S TOUGH OR EASY! LIFE IS ABOUT PERSEVERANCE AND HOW YOU PERSEVERE THROUGH LIFE! I'm rooting for JaMarcus not just because he could use it and deserve it we all do deserve to see him reach his ability and potential on the field JaMarcus knows he didn't give himself a fair shake so given that he realizes and knows he didn't give himself a fair shot at success so he knows he has more than what he showed heck I actually hope he could sign as like a 3rd stringer for the Saints so he cpuld watch Drew and how he goes about his business day in and day out! I believe Russell can be a stud in a playaction power scheme which we run a little but I believe given alot of work and coaching and mentoring he can be as good as anybody I think learning under a good team is key though!

I think that this trade/signing was as much of a publicity stunt as anything else for TB. Their fan base is abysmal, and I think that it could help them sell a few tickets to have one of the league's "superstars" on the field. They had the cap space & only have up an arm and a finger instead of an arm and a leg. They still have around $8.5M in cap space. It'll be ok for them. The better question for TB is do they have a "big time" QB that can get it done against the division's other "big time" QBs? That's to be determined.

That just helps TB stop Brees on one reciever, he is not the answer TB, sorry.

Re: Wow Bucs traded the house for Revis

Revis may not be the answer for the Buccaneers, but if he is 100% after the ACL injury it's a step in the right direction.

And the Bucs have him signed to a very friendly no-guaranteed money contract, so should it not work out they can cut him without penalty...

Seems like the Clements and Asomghoua deals would have made this point clear to teams. Deion Sanders is the last CB I have seen that would actually be worth this much due to his skill. Teams don't win Superbowls because of the cornerbacks. We did it with guys signed off of the street.

+1. This trade would make more sense to me if it had been the 49ers/Broncos who are a player or two away from winning a SB but not the Bucs. They have a plethora of needs & holes to fill but the cornerback play is only one of many.

No
Never

Pick one:

Why spend 16M for one side of the field, when you could cover both sides with equal talent for the same 16M.

You don't pay 16M to someone that doesn't touch the ball.

Pass rushers are more important than CBs.

I'm not going to get into the Ditka of the rest of what they gave up.

16ml is the guts of 2 good CB and a safety.Revis is a major talent, but if the have front loaded the deal he will be after a restructure before it ends.

After listening to Nick Cattles in the Virginia Beach area it didn't seem all that bad.

1. If you believe he was better than any body they possibly could have gotten in the 1st round it was a good move.
2. If you can afford him and still have money room it was a good move.
3. They can walk away 1-2 years from now with zero guaranteed money.. it was a good deal
4. Revis was brought in because 6 games in thier pass happy divison will help.

Not saying I would have wanted to do this but I don't think TB got the bad of a deal

1-4 Revis can not eff3ect 6 games when we are burning the other side of the field.
2-3 They Ditka'd away draft picks... That has nothing to do with Cap, money, and you cant get them back if you walk away from him in 1-2 years.

Signs of desperation, however just like Atlanta and Houston... You can bring in anything you want, with out the Coach your not winning any more games or going any further in the playoffs.
