Michigan Panthers, led by Louisiana's own Bobby Hebert, won the league's inaugral championship ... it was a "fun league",

. The only two other players I can remember from that team were WR Anthony Carter (UofM) and the kicker, some Serbian guy named Novo Bojovic who did really well later on in the Arena Football League.

From a Saint standpoint, we can add QB John Fourcade to your memory. He played in just about every other league there was at some point. I think his USFL stent was in the mid-80s.

Whats interesting about USFL and the 1 year running XFL was the number of players who went undrafted in the NFL that dominated in both of those leagues and became quite good when they made it to the NFL.

Just tells you that the Scouting and Drafting process in the NFL has been really flawed in the last 30+ years.

What is tells me is that the difference between undrafted in the NFL or going in the 5th,6th,7th round in the draft has very little bearing on ability. They are all a frogs hair different in ability. You can only draft x number of people so i do not see that as an issue with scouting.

If you put 700 pro-bowlers in the draft 1/2 would go undrafted.

But I believe more talent that stays in the NFL at a high level is coming out of later rounds than in earlier rounds.

it is a scouting issue or lack of knowledge of the players coming out of college, and its a league wide issue obviously.

look how many 1st rounders are on the bench or out of the league that was drafted a mere 4-5 years ago.

I mean hell, we havent had a 1st rounder that has done anything since Sean Payton came in with maybe the exception of Malcom Jenkins and he got converted from CB to Safety. Mark Ingram is still pending.

if I was GM, unless I needed a QB or knew who was going to be a great talent, I trade picks for proven players already out there.

The only people who could ever get drafts right was Bill Walsh and Mike Ditka, but Ditka had no knowledge of Xs and Os or how to coach that talent unlike Walsh.

That name is kinda' familiar & man, you're right! 10 teams in something like 6 different leagues, that guy got around,
