Brett Favre on breakup with Packers: 'I was at fault

"It's over and done with. I was at fault," Favre said, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "I feel that both sides had a part in it. If you could go back would I or them have done things differently? I'm sure both sides would. But you can't."

Favre has discussed burying the hatchet in the past, but he hasn't been as forthright in taking ownership of how he put the Packers in a tough spot after his initial retirement.

When asked about having his number retired, Favre was optimistic it would happen soon and credited team president Mark Murphy for patching the discord.

Not a Farve fan, but he is a Packer, no doubt.

If Aaron Rodgers didn't turn out to be so damn good Green Bay would have forgiven him long ago

I was at fault," Favre said, No kidding. Your a Packer a GREEN BAY PACKER. It was always fun watching you play. All kidding a side. You were something else. You were special.

Right now, I am watching a NFL Classic game.
Packers at 'Boys Thanksgiving Day 1994

White (one armed), Farve, Sharpe

I forgot Sharpe was good; Gilbert Brown was huge...
I never forgot NFL Reggie White; may he rest in peace with his angel eyes on wife Sara while she lives with Multiple Sclerosis.

Love him or hate him...I loved watching Packer Farve, Brett the Jet and Viking Farve play ball. I will never forget him and my neighbors here in Wisconsin will never forget him.

I walked away from Green Bay in 1998 when it got to hard to have my life controlled by the Packers. I moved to the Saints when Ditka drafted Ricky and I was at a preseason game at Lambeau. It was easy. You never expected much from the Saints.

I am glad that this is over and as a Green Bay Packers stock holder; this is good for the franchise.

I look forward to seeing his name listed on the circle of honor with Reggie White.

We will NEVER forget Farve. He is a legend in the Northwoods of Wisconsin.

IMO - Farve was a man whose circumstances went out of control. He was not ready for technology and how it can damage a career and rep.

I have attended every Packer game at New Orleans since 1998.
My first jersey was Brooks.
I loved the slaughter in the dome on the Packers Thanksgiving Week.

Farve is a HOF first ballot guy. He needed to grow up and make peace.

(I knew from experience, the Vikings would lose because of Farve in the NFC playoff but I still like watching him.)

The gun was a gunslinger which we'll never see again, the game has changed.
Yes he was fun to watch.

Great post. Favre is one of my all-time favourite players and I'll never forget the show he put the day after his father Irv passed as Brett was nearly flawless when the Packers destroyed the Raiders.

...paving the way to be in the good graces in GB for an enshrining ceremony to be announced later this year, IMHO.

Certain teams and fans in the NFL are not willing to sacrifice the integrity of their branding for off the field BS. The packers are one of them, when a married Bret Favre sent pictures of his junk to a Jets Cheerleader he lost the respect of a lot of fans in that area.

Like or dislike Farve. He was a player and in the Northwood's it was known.

Retiring a jersey is not about what Brett did with his junk and where he put it.

This about football. This is about what occurred on the field.

I have plenty of friends from GB. They don't all like Favre.

I live and breathe Wisconsin air.
I have friends that "know" or "knew" Brett for a few hours.
Brett will never be loved like DD is in Wisconsin.

I live here in Wisconsin.
