Who was better 1972 Dolphins or 2009 Saints

According to a simulation of these two teams on WhatifSports.com the Saints came out on top. A lot of people say you need to simulate numerous games and take the highest win percentage before determining who would have won, but that's just an opinion.

It was a close game and the Saints trailed the Dolphins into the 4th quarter before going up by a touchdown. We all know that these were different eras and the players have progressed with their speed and size, but it's all in fun.

No one can deny the 1972 Dolphins were a team of destiny as were the 2009 Saints.

Impossible comparison, two totally different brands of football.

In order to validate the answer the 2009 Saints would have to play all of the 1972 Dolphin's opponents and vice versa accounting for injuries as specific positions..... As one game does not define a better of two teams. All a head up match does is show the delta between offense and defense. EG you are not comparing a Brees offense to a Marino offense, you are comparing a Brees offense to the Dolphins defense.

The two teams head up is apples and oranges.

I truthfully think our 2011 Saints were the O was better than any O ever. Our D just got predictable. I thought we would be hoisting another Lombardi.

The biggest gig on the '72 Dolphins has always been the strength-of-schedule the played that season, but they only lost something like 5 or 6 games from '71 - '73, won two-out-of-three SuperBowls and had some ungodly winning streaks, so it can't be all that ... that team was stacked top-to-bottom with HOF'ers.

Break 'em down vs the '09 Saints? IDK, I think the '09 Saints win in a head-to-head matchup just on the how the game has changed and played today, but if you consider each team in their own era, then I give the edge to the '72 Dolphins.

QB: Brees edges Griese in this one just because he's Drew Brees ... but Griese was no slouch (Earl Morrall either) ... '09 Saints

Offense: Both teams had a great running game and receivers ... TIE

Defense: I got to give it to the "No-Name" defense, though it's debatable if they could have withstood the passing onslaughts of today's game ... '72 Dolphins.

Special Teams: Who can forget Garo Ypremium attempting a forward pass? ... TIE

Steakhouses: Don Shula, '72 Dolphins

Marino? Marino was 12 years old in 1972. I get that you are trying to be a buzzkill on the original poster and take a very "smart" and analytical, Mr. Peabody type approach, but bringing Marino into it makes no sense.
