Matthews: I'm awesome player, not dirty

Pretty conceited, evidently ...

All Clay Matthews wanted to talk about Thursday was the Green Bay Packers' upcoming game against the Washington Redskins.

The linebacker said as much in response to questions about his late hit on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick on Sunday, whether he was fined for it, his reaction to comments made by 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh and the suggestion that he might be a dirty player.

Jim Harbaugh Criticizes Clay Matthews - ESPN Video - ESPN
This late hit on 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick led Jim Harbaugh to suggest that Packers LB Clay Matthews might be a dirty player, to which Matthews took umbrage: "I think my résumé is pretty good right now. I think we're doing all right."
It was the last of those questions that finally drew a response.
"Next game!" Matthews yelled and then smiled. "I'm an awesome player, not a dirty player."

It was Matthews' first session with reporters since Harbaugh on Monday described Matthews' hit on Kaepernick as a "clothesline to the neck area when our quarterback's six, seven feet out of bounds."

After the game, Matthews conceded it was not a smart play.

He would not say Thursday whether he received notification from the league office about a fine. The NFL confirms most fines on Fridays.

Matthews said he could recall being fined only once during his career for an on-field incident -- a facemask penalty against Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler in 2010 that resulted in a $5,000 fine.

"I think my résumé is pretty good right now," Matthews said. "I think we're doing all right."

Doesnt sound like he was fined then.
Disgraceful when you consider Vacarro was fined. No agenda from the league offices, no sir no angenda.

I wish Jim Harbaugh would shut his trap. I really hate that guy, he's a f*cking clown.

1. jump the shark

a term to describe a moment when somethin that was once great has reached a point where it will now decline in quality and popularity.

Origin of this phrase comes from a Happy Days episode where the Fonz jumped a shark on waterskis. Thus was labeled the lowest point of the show.

Urban Dictionary: jump the shark

... the NFL has officially and once again "jumped the shark" with this one. No fine on Matthews = No credibility ... none ... zip ... zero ... pretty soon the game will be scripted like the WWE, <sigh>, it was a good run while it lasted though.

I like the hit it wasn't as bad as it looked still a penalty though. Harbaugh is a ham-headed fool. To him its fine for his players to knock ppl out but when u touch his precious kaepernick its hell on earth. He needs to get a clue and a life.

Edgar Hoover ... come to think of it, Goodell probably saw the movie & thought, "Hey, I can do that with my league, :)" ... and as soon as they get the chop/illegal block database up and running, everything should be under control,.

Let the boys play, fine 'em for the extra-curricular b.s. and/or kick 'em outta' the league if they don't play well with others, but out-of-bounds hits like Matthews' and Vaccaro's, as well as Suh's block, are in fact plays that occur frequently during any game and should be regulated with penalty flags and/or removal from a game if deemed flagrant/intentional.

A fine to me says, "Hey, I don't want to lose any revenue from fans coming to see you play and your hits that I have deemed illegal in a league that was built on big-hits, but I'll levy this politically-correct punishment in order to appear that I care".

It just seems pointless to me to fine millionaires.

You should be commissioner, Slo!

Commissioner Slo... It has a pretty good ring to it!

What would be your first action as commissioner?

Well, as any benevolent dictator, I would see my predecessor's head on a platter ... after that, I'd just play it by ear,.

Upon further review, I'm considering him "awesomely dirty" in a wholesome, "Cheerios" sort-of-way,.

Wow I hardly ever agree with Jim Harbaugh - I think he is a giant asshat.

But Matthews was way out of line.
