That part didn't bother me at all, since its obviously hazing. The racist stuff bothers me the most. I've had friends say they're gonna kill me numerous times. Even my wife tells me that occasionally, joking of course, I think...

What I don't understand is why do you wait 6-7 months after receiving a text like that to do something about it? That right there is an open invitation to kick someone's arse ... if you're not comfortable doing that, at least forward it to your employer for action and/or like you said, the police.

Incognito is obviously a jerk, but WTH was going on with Martin that he couldn't take any sort of decisive action to address a serious issue like that?

As is typically the case with people like this, the longer article reveals he has a laundry list of past incidents of aggression/violence/threats/bad behavior, prior to this, that were not properly addressed.

ETA @ SloMo -- apparently there was some kind of "lunchroom incident" last week, different from the messages, which prompted Martin to leave. Whatever that was.

Mental abuse can take months or even years to finally take its toll. Trust me, I know. I have been married for quite some time.

It started his ROOKIE yr (last year). being a rookie you think the stuff was common. Sure he probably wanted to kick RI arse but RI was set in a leadership role and his teammates followed RI. Martin is still young and being put in a situation like that how do you respond to stuff like that. place yourself in his situation; age 23(maturity level) loner (no friends) and the pressure that ri was placing on you (cafeteria prank by teammates). All he did was remove himself from a bad enviroment and his agent stood up for him by reporting RI.

As you say he probably thought it was normal rookie year initiation pranks.Sounds like Incognito found a victim and just went after him knowing he would be backed up

It's no secret the NFL employs violent, vile human beings, but yeah, it's not like the red flags weren't there with Incognito at Nebraska/Oregon, when he was at St. Louis, with Martin missing OTA's for personal reasons, et... For those reasons, I hold the Miami Dolphins organization just as culpable as Incognito in this ... you can't tell me someone didn't know what was going on. It's too bad none of Martin's teammates couldn't realize that it was getting out of hand and show some leadership by stepping in and addressing it. Incognito is probably some kind of 'roid-head as well, so you bring a few of your buddies if need be, but teammates don't let this kind of stuff go on.

I've been in this situation a few times and I'm a firm believer that "people will do to you what you let them". Under no circumstances do you accept this type of abuse and you take your arse whippings (if need be) on/off the field until you make them respect you. I'm not getting snarky with you, but this ain't junior high school anymore and I'm kind of disappointed in a guy like Martin for not sticking up for himself, IMO.

The NFL is starting to really piss me off on quite a few levels ... :burn:.

I agree he should kick his arse when the messages was left, but somehow he thought it had passed, new development happen with his teammates pranking him in the cafeteria ( I don't know what RI involvement in it but by RI placing a target on him I wouldn't doubt some weakling coming along to push @ him some more) How do you react to teammates choosing to alienate themselves from you?

Martin took it as long as he could, and finally broke down. Having to work and play next to that sub-human dips--t would break anyone.

The N word and the ol' "#2-in-your-mouth" and the ol' "slap yo momma" bit is pretty classy stuff. But if a classy dude like Dickie Incog says he's gonna kill you in a voice mail WITHOUT a shred of acknowledgement that it could be interpreted as foul or a "my bad, dude, I was completely wasted last night", exactly how do you handle that? Avoid, which Martin obviously did. Dickie has never displayed a sense of humor or is generally not known as a joking-kind of person...ever. "Disdain" is the best word I can think of considering how former teammates talk of him. Sorry, but Martin did what he could do any put up with it as long as possible.

Did I use the term "classy" right?
